Friends, here's an e-mail I just received. With over 4 hours remaining until this important opportunity to learn about Chiapas in depth, I decided to use the phenomenal Boston Indymedia Center to spread the word. If you want to know what's really going on in Chiapas, here's your chance. I heard him give a plenary presentation last May here in Oaxaca and he is amazing.

Dr. Barreda speaks on how environmental issues, strategic resources and biodiversity correlate with militarization, paramilitary presence and repression of indigenous communities in Chiapas. His idea for this Sunday is to do a more in-depth presentation for activists, but anyone is welcome to come. He'll also be showing lots of natural resource/military position maps as well.

Andres has a WEALTH of FASCINATING information and is REALLY worth hearing! He's been telling us stunning news about certain international environmental groups operating in Mexico, and is on the forefront of looking at bio-piracy and genetically altered seed issues in jungle and indigenous areas. Hope you can come! And please send this to or invite anyone else you know who might be interested.
