In June 2001, 23 year-old forest defense activist Jeffrey "Free" Luers was sentenced to 22 years and 8 months in prison for the burning of three SUV's. To make a statement about global warming, Jeff set the fire at a Eugene, Oregon car dealership. No one was hurt in this action nor was that the intent. Jeff was sent to prison for a sentence considerably longer than those convicted of murder, kidnapping and rape in Oregon. Jeff is a political prisoner and continues to write and agitate for his release while imprisoned at Oregon State Penitentiary.

This film, made by the Cascadia Media Collective in March 2005 features the background of Jeff's case and the motives for his actions from his perspective. It attempts to explain how the state has attempted to portray Jeff as an eco-terrorist leader, and the effects this has had on both the length of the sentence and his life behind bars. The film is 40 minutes long.

In conjunction with the Friends of Jeff Luers:

Jeff was not arrested for his political beliefs. Therefore he is not a political prisoner.

He was arrested for committing dangerous acts of vandalism.

"dangerous acts of vandalism" in which no one person was hurt or at risk.

The courts clearly didn't think his action was apolitical, otherwise they wouldn't of sentenced him to almost a quarter century behind bars in a state that lets out convincted rapists and murders in under 10. He may not of been arrested for his political beliefs but he certainly was sentenced for them.

How many tons of dangerous gasses were released into the earth's atmosphere when Jeffrey Lures burned down an entire dealershkip.

Tires burning, platic dashboards burning, paint burning, foam seats and carpeting burning... this guy did the opposite of what he claims to stand for.

Every person within exploding gas tank distance, whether sleeping in a house, walking past, or putting out the fires that Jeff started was put at grave risk, this is not the way to people

This wasnt mere vandalism it was a violent act of arson and incredibly irresponsible.
Silly Liberals
14 Sep 2005
Caroline - it was not a dealership, it was 3 cars. Do you really think that the one fire Jeff caused is responsible for pollution equalible to the smog caused by the billion or so cars on the earth?? This "kid" participated in a number of forest defense actions. What have you done Caroline?

Anon - you think people sleeping in house were in risk of exploding gas tanks?!? You people watch too many hollywood action films.

Liberals are so quick to denounce anything more proactive than petitioning 'elected' leaders and permitted marches.

More power to Jeff for have the integrity to back up his words his actions.

Jeff Luers should be executed for his crimes against the ozone layer!
A is as crazy as "sparky" Luers
15 Sep 2005
A is an a hole.

Maybe someday some lunatic like Jeff will want to "back up their words" regarding something important to A hole, I dont think A would be so quick to agree with the "ends justify the means mentality then"

Anyone who thinks arson is a good thing should held for a dangerousness hearing, I certainly wouldn't want to live in the apartment above a hole.
