Prominent Cuban Singer in Chile
Santiago, Chile, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Omara Portuondo, the only woman of the Cuban ensemble Buena Vista Social Club, arrived Friday in Chile to perform at the recently restored Santiago Caupolican Theater.

Portuondo, 75, will launch her 2004 album "Flor de Amor," awarded as the Best Female Tropical Album of the Year by the billboard magazine, and perform with a 12-musician band.

The Cuban singer visited this country for the first time in the 60´s together with the island's quartet Las D'Aida, then she returned in 1972 as part of a cultural program between Chile and Cuba, and in November 2000 she came back with group Buena Vista Social Club.

Portuondo, a legend of Cuban music, has also visited Brazil and Peru, nations where she has been warmly welcomed.
