Howard Zinn speaks at Tufts University on his romantic view of war as a child, his participation in the war machinery during World War II as a bomber, and his change of ideology and present stand against all wars.
“We’ll need to think of ourselves as key players in whatever change needs to take place in the US and in the world. Therefore all of us bear some responsibility to do something, nothing big, nothing heroic, even something small… Because great social movements are made up of very small actions undertaken by very large numbers of people, which at certain points in history come together and bring about change.” H.Zinn |

BACKGROUND
On November 6, 2005, Howard Zinn and Gino Strada spoke at Tufts University. Dr. Gino Strada recently released a book entitled, "Green Parrots: A War Surgeon’s Diary" where he writes about the silent victims of war. Green parrots are small antipersonnel mines designed to look like toys. They explode when people, mostly children, pick them up and play with them for a while. Dr. Strada has treated many children in the Middle East who have been maimed by these devices. In his book he dares the reader to imagine a world without wars.
"Green Parrots" has sold over 400,000 copies in Europe and Asia; it will be available in US bookstores this spring.
Howard Zinn wrote the forward to "Green Parrots" and has joined Gino Strada in advocating an end to all wars. The video excerpt is from Zinn's speech at Tufts during the presentation of the book. |
