“Billionaires for Bush, no matter what your politics, must be one of the most likeable political groups ever formed...these people have found a way to make a point while making people smile, even people who don’t agree with their point.”

Bogus Activist Group
24 Jan 2006
Billionaires for Bush is a group for people who want to get a lot of attention while making the most banal of political statements - Bush favors the rich. Well, Clinton did and the Democrats mostly still do as well.

In fact, Billionaires for Bush seem to have more money to burn than most any other activist group of its size, which is in fact as ironic as it sounds. that combined with their tepid, hedging politics perhaps explains why the mainstream media love and fawn over them to the exclusion of more worthwhile and meaningful protests.

it's no wonder they got such a cold reception from the real activists at O29. the real movement is SO beyond where these folks are...

Last time I encountered them, there was so much Democrat bullshit surrounding their agenda it was sickening. The idea of Billionaires for Bush was a good street theater tactic, but the agenda behind them is deplorable.
Used to be better
24 Jan 2006
I remember when they used to be called "Billionaires for Bush or Gore".

But their politics sank to the level of their satyrical "polemics".

This is the inevitable fate of movements, like the "green party", based in the petit bourgeoisie, a vaccilating and inconsequential class.

Build a workers' party!
That Analysis is Wrong

Trotsky, I disagree with you. I know plenty of petty bourgs that are much more enlightened than a lot working class people I know. This notion that a vanguard has to be made up of this or that type of person is really outdated. why are you stuck in the past? the most radical applications of marxism do not really fit with the historical context you seem to base your entire analysis on. if you really wanted to show the "proletariat" how to break their chains you would encourage them to exacerbate the inherent contradictions in the existing capitalist system in much more creative ways. like how to create your own currency or mini-commune, etc. and to do it so successfully that the entire world, proles and bourgs and elites will at once realize what a sham the whole capitalist system is. you just rant and tell us to follow you and be just like you. i and many others though have different ideas about how to bring about a world in which no one is denied the true value of their labor where we will all share the costs and benefits of our collective existence as humanity. our lives will be more peaceful our minds more creative, our hands more productive... how will we start this new chapter in human history? by following you backwards through time so that you can rehash stale ideological and egotistical battles with the other so-called comrades?

you all are just like Billionaires for Bush in that you've accomplished nothing with your efforts (nothing productive or progressive that is.)

try this instead--envision every corrupt government official being held to account, and every sleazy financial industry hack being forced to pay back all their wrongful gains. then think--how do we get there from here? all the rest, including how many mainstream news services cover you (B4B), or how many rival communist groups you tell off, is bullsh*t.

I haven't performed with the Boston Billionaires in a while, but I must say--the idea that they have money to burn is laughable. When i was doing it, it was people showing up in their one suit with a lot of plastic costume jewelry and ginger ale in plastic champagne flutes. Where's the big bucks there?

As for 029, as I recall, they didn't go on until near the end of that interminable 4 hour rally. There were hardly any activists ("real" or not) left ot give them any reception, cold or not!

The mainstream media also gave the Billionaires lots of attention--perhaps more--when they were for Billionaires Bush or Gore. It's not that they're using a huge budget and tepid message to make the media love them; it's that they have a good gag and tight performance. When others do so as well, they also get coverage. When we communicate through long, boring speeches, poorly written signs, and hackneyed slogans, the media ignores us.

The good part of this is that having a gag like the Billionaires is NOT that hard. So let's apply a little more creativity and a little more organization, and maybe other messages will get through better as well!
You Fellows Seem a Tad Vexed!
25 Jan 2006

As you squabble over out-dated political philosophies and who is a "real" activist, the Billionaires will continue to educate everyday Americans, including "the workers", on the basic issues of the day.

We average two actions a month. How active are you fellows?

But, thank you ever so much for acknowledging our effectiveness with your comments and for thinking we are really rich! Apparently we have achieved our goal of Billionaire production values on a pauper's budget!

the moderate militant
25 Jan 2006
"Activist" brings up a good point, just criticizing Bush leaves the impression that the Democrats are the answer. That said, "activist's" 1st comment lacks solidarity and the 2nd comment proposed such moderate reforms as "create your own currency or mini-commune". Sure, these reforms would improve our lives, but so would getting rid of Bush.

Matt is correct when he points out that the "Billionaires" have been successful because they found a creative way to get their message out. So learn from their success. Perhaps you too can get your message across creatively and effectively. Critique is good, but why reason to tear down our allies? Frankly no one has all the answers, we all have allot to learn.
