Saint Kermit's Commentary on the State of the Union Address

Co-hosts Tony Lorenzen and Jim Henderson announce a special edition of Saint Kermit. To be recorded immediately following the State of the Union address on Tuesday, Tony and Jim will be joined by 2004 Green Party Presidential Candidate David Cobb, media literacy expert Mary Hess, and our healthcare guru Dr. Michael Blackman to discuss the State of the Union, as well as the Democratic response, from a progressive perspective. The program will be available here and at iTunes early Wednesday morning.

David Cobb: We campaigned for him, hung out with him at the Green Party '04 Convention in Milwaukee, and now he's on Saint Kermit! Can you imagine what it would be like, what America might be like, if HE was giving the speech on Tuesday night?

Mary Hess: While we expect President Bush to outline a variety of policy agenda, what other messages will he be conveying? Mary, who is Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Luther Seminary, will offer her analysis.

Michael Blackman: Much of the advance warning of the speech sounds the alarm that Bush will not only dismiss universal or state sponsored health care, but even attack HMOs. Michael, who is Chief of General Internal Medicine at Berkshire Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University Of Massachusetts School Of Medicine, will be on hand to help us deal with health care and other related topics.

Music for this program will be "Love Song to W" by Andy Webster. We will also offer our usual sports rant.

Finally, we invite all listeners to respond to our discussion and to the State of the Union through Skype. Details will be given during the program.
