The New "Did This Really Happen?" Blog Quiz
03 Feb 2006
Shocking! Incredible! Play and win self-esteem! See if you are smarter than the entire Bush cabinet!
Hey kids! It's time to play the web's newest blog quiz: Did This Really Happen?

Okay, here are the rules:

1. You can't look at the newspaper (why bother?).

2. You can't peek at the answer and pretend you knew it (only government officials and corporate executives cheat like that)

3. The only reward for winning is a smug sense of pride.

Here are the questions:

Who is being referred to here?

Quote 1: "He's a person who was elected legally just as Adolf Hitler was elected legally and then consolidated power...It concerns me."

Quote 2: "[He] appears ready to use his control of the legislature and other institutions to continue to stifle the opposition, to reduce press freedom, and entrench himself through measures that are technically legal, but which nonetheless constrict democracy."

Okay, for the next two questions, guess who said the first quote, and who said the second quote.

For extra credit, if you got the first two questions wrong, guess who the quotes were really referring to.

If you answered all four questions correctly, or even three answers, you are smarter than Stephen Hadley and should be the president's national security adviser. If you guessed two answers right, you're smarter than Porter Goss, and should be running the CIA. If you guessed one answer right, you are smarter than the Democrats in the Senate, who couldn't even block Sam Alito from becoming a Supreme Court justice and you should take over as head of the Democratic National Committee.

If you missed all the answers, you are eminently qualified to fill one of Condi ("I don't have a pulse") Rice's many shoes (purchased during the Katrina disaster) as Secretary of State.

For the correct answers, go to the This Can't Be Happening! homepage at
Then scroll to the bottom (but no peeking!).

I hate scrolling down large pages, I'm impatient, and resent being marketed to in any form so I'm posting the answers, which I found on the link above (feel free to visit the site anyway):

1. Hugo Chavez (is being referred to-- not Dubya!)
2. Hugo Chavez (again)
3. Donald Rumsfeld (being quoted on Chavez)
4. John Negroponte (being quoted on Chavez)

Well at least you had fun (you cheated though, naughty person, or how would you have known it was a long page you had to scroll down). Anyhow, it can't be marketing, since I don't make a penny on my free website. It was really more of a joke, and a way of putting the answers where they couldn't be easily seen.
You seem to be a dour sort who doesn't appreciate the fun. Too bad.
Fortunately, with luck most readers won't scroll down to the comments either.
