Demonstration for Workers' Rights Friday March 1st 5:00PM @ the Prudential Star Market |
Demonstration for Workers' Rights-
Friday March 1st 5:00pm @ The Prudential Star Market
J. Sainsbury, a British multinational and parent company of Shaws supermarkets, recently acquired the Star Market chain of supermarkets. Star Market workers have been attempting to organize a union under the same union that covers many Shaw's employees, the United Food and Commercial Workers. Unfortunately, Star employees have met heabu handed resistance from managers who have sunk to coercive and illegal behavior in order to crush the workers' attempts at organizing. Thecompany's actions have led to a formal complaint by the National Labor Relations Board, a federal govermeny agency for violation of the employees right to organize. Help Support Star Workers!
- Workers are told not to speak to union organizers.
- Workers are forced to attend meetings and watch videos that misrepresent the union and their rights to organize.
- Management performs surveilance on workers' organizing activity.
- Workers in other Shaw's union stores are having their health benefits held hostage by management in order to make an example of those who are brave enough to fight for a decent living.
