Report on the Presidential Debate protest
04 Oct 2000
About 10,000 pro-Gore union demonstrators and about 10,000 protestors came out to the police-designed protest site near the UMass-Boston campus where the first Presidential debate was held Tuesday evening. There were a few clashes between these groups, but fortunately nothing serious. The protest gathering was festive and mostly trouble-free, but the protestors never managed to get near the actual debate.

Humor for this massive protests of the debate was provided by Bilionaire$ for clo$ed debate$!

The chant of "Al Gore, Corporate Whore" was in fact provided by the carpenters to us Billionaires (of course for a ridiculous fee), so we gave it immediately to Central CT Green Party members.
That rif-raf can't be bought like all the others!!! How were we supposed to know they would use it against us and make our enviro centrist puppet candidate look bad!(Well we knew the other one won't be needed any help making himself look bad so we were betting on this one. I won the bet though!)

Gore Supporters Were Hardly Restrained
04 Oct 2000
Larry, I think that you embellish a bit of the supposedly "good behavior" on the part of the pro-Gore unions members. From what I saw first-hand, drunk union assholes initiated fights with Nader supporters, anarchists and other activists, with some going as far as to make threatening sexual remarks to women activists and attack activists from behind (I saw first hand one anarchist militant get punched in the back of the head in a totally unprovoked incident). This was hardly instigated by the Nader people or the anarchists.

Some bad behavior on both sides...

I saw some of the later drunken assaults too--of course, that was wrong, disgusting, etc. But what you may not hae seen occurred earlier when the unionists were taunted (between roughly 5:30 and 6:30) as they marched along the demo area. Protestors should have used a bit of common sense--if you taunt a huge groud of big beefy guys, it's likely that some fights will break out. It's not surprising if a few of them come back later and attack some of your bretheren. We're just lucky--and this is where I say there was a LOT of restraint--that there were only a few of these incidents. For a few minutes at about 7pm it looked like a massive brawl might break out. fortunately it didn't, and, as far I've heard, no one got seriously beat up. I just hope that this was a one time green/labor confrontation.
