Don't Give Up!!!
As the situation is getting worse in Palestine, we noticed that a lot of people (including ourselves) seemed to be getting more pessimistic about the situation; or more like we feel that the situation is out of our control. We realized what a horrible feeling that is; to feel powerless. People will say things like, "well I really don't want anything to happen to the palestinians, but I am in the U.S. and they are way over there." But, what we have noticed is that when events take place in the U.S. that are either controversial or devastating, people will say the same things, "I am not in Florida, I can't control the votes, etc...." Which made us come to the conclusion that one of the greatest crimes that governments can ever do to a group of people is make them feel powerless. But, I don't think we are powerless. There are things that we can do. Now, granted, there are a lot of Americans who want the war to stop in Palestine, but it would be almost impossible for all of these americans to participate in direct action in palestine. But, that does not mean we are powerless. There are some things we can do...even if we do not work directly in stopping the occupation, we can raise consciousness, which will then lead to the stopping of the occupation. I had talked to somebody the other day from the Jerusalem IMC and asked if there was anything I could do. He told me that I should call the embassy's, write letters, etc... So maybe other than protests/demonstrations, this will be our best bet in the states. Just please don't give up on these things...we can still make a difference (and if not at least we tried). Currently, Resist The Occupation is running a campaign to slam the shit out of the Media and government here...at least check it out and get maybe get your friends involved.
