Turtles need your help!
02 Apr 2006
The spotted turtle is at risk of being de-listed from the Mass. Endangered Species List. Please help keep this species on the list!
Letters are needed in support of the spotted turtle (Clemmys guttata) in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program(MNHESP) has proposed to remove the spotted turtle from the Massachusetts list of Endangered, Threatened and Special Concern species.

A group of Massachusetts herpetologists discussing this issue believes that the MNHESP has not met the requirements necessary for delisting this species. In addition they are convinced that such an act would extremely detrimental to the species in Massachusetts.

MNHESP is now allowing a brief period where the public can review the De-listing proposal as well as a newly drafted Conservation Plan for the species. Follow this link to these documents:

Comment letters should be addressed to:

Kathleen Anderson, Chair
NHES Advisory Committee
Division of Fisheries and Wildlife
North Drive
Westborough MA 01581
Henry.Woolsey (at)

Comments should be postmarked by 6 April, 2006. Ms. Anderson is the Chair of the Natural Heritage and Endangered Speceis Advisory Committee. She will assemble the letters and pass copies along to the Advisory Board who will them make a decision to either support the De-listing proposal or to keep the turtle listed as a Species of Special Concern. While there are other steps involved in the de-listing process, it is usually the decision of the Board that is most important.

Stop being an alarmist for christ's sake! The turtles are being removed from the list because they are no longer endangered. This is a good thing! Helloooo McFly.

Try this recipe for Turtle soup...a Louisiana specialty!

1-1/2lbs turtle meat
2qts beef stock
2tsp Tabasco
1 large onion, chopped coarsely
2 ribs celery, chopped coarsely
1/4 can tomato puree

Put above ingredients into a 4 quart stock pot and bring to a boil. Lower heat to simmer, and cook for 1 hour. Remove meat and de-bone, cut meat in half inch pieces and return to pot.

Then add:
2 bay leaves
2tsp mace
1-1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/3cup sherry

Let cook for another hour.

Then add:

2 hard cooked egg whites chopped
1/2 cup parsley

Serve and enjoy!

This is not FLIPSIDE pretending to be @. This is @. I guess there is anothe @ as well but since there is more than one Tom Dick or Harry, there can be more than one @ and that's me. But I'm not flipside so deal with it,
