BU biolab high school speaking tour
06 May 2006
Please spread this message to any interested high school students and teachers in the Boston area!

Members of the direct action campaign Operation: Over, who have been working on fighting Boston University's proposed Biosafety Level-4 lab to be built in the South End / Roxbury area, are looking for high school students to speak to about the issue.

If you are a teacher or student at a high school and would like some of us to come speak in front of your class or during your lunch period, please contact me. The BU biolab is a very multi-faceted issue, and there are tons of different topics we can talk about. Some of these topics include BSL4 labs around the country, biological weapons proliferation, classism and racism, gentrification, the 3-year-old community struggle fighting this biolab, democracy and community accountability, tactics and strategies for social change, direct action and civil disobedience, the political repression we've received from BU, and a plethora of others. We're very open to talk about whatever issues students are interested in, and we're eager to help out anyone who wants to get involved in the campaign.

If you're interested, email me at micahmoo (at)

Re: BU biolab high school speaking tour

I was critical of the occupation of the Bu Prez' office. But to show I recognize postive fights for change. what Michah describes above is very good. It's compehensive and most importantly it's inclusive. If any of us work with community groups, churches, youth groups, this is a terrific opportunity to educate youth in threats to their health now and in future. My observation is there is huge apathy in urban youth who face terrible employment prospects and housing and living costs as they graduate high school. They must have information. This is a great start.
