Report & video:
Ending the Occupation

On Friday, August 2, 2002,

Richard Hugus - cofounder of Falmouth Antiwar & the Boston Rhythm
Workers Union - will speak at the ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and
End Racism) Boston meeting about his recent three-week trip to
Palestine with a U.S. and Canadian delegation of the
International Popular Defense for Palestine.
The event will take place at

6:30 p.m. at 284 Amory St. (the Brewery) in Jamaica Plain.

Richard will show video footage he took in three Palestinian
refugee camps in Gaza and the West Bank, and will talk about the spirit and
aspirations of the Palestinian people in the face of the Israeli military
occupation of their land. Also on the program will be Boston activist Amer
Jubran, head of the New England Committee to Defend Palestine.

In a report from Jerusalem, Hugus wrote that "some call the
elaborate separation of privilege between Palestinians and Israelis an
apartheid system, but apartheid seems too mild a word. Israel is actually
enforcing concentration camp conditions in large parts of the country,
conducting a war of attrition in which it starves, harasses, arrests,
humiliates, shoots at, assassinates, and demolishes the homes of
Palestinians, in order to force them off their land. Israel's claim to the
rest of the world that it acts for the sake of its own security is untrue.
Instead, it uses security as a justification for a war against a
defenseless people, waged with U.S. funding."

Richard Hugus is available for interviews and can be reached at
540-6034.
