Ritual Abuse Survivors Have Their Day in Court . . . TV
16 May 2006
In what the prosecutor considered "a classic textbook satanic cult killing," (Toledo Blade, May 13, 2006), Father Gerald Robinson of Toledo, Ohio was convicted of murdering Sister Margaret Ann Pahl in 1980. During the trial, I was given the unique opportunity to speak on live TV about the reality of ritual abuse without being discredited, demeaned, or disbelieved by Court TV anchors Lisa Bloom and Vinnie Politan.
“Was this a ritual murder?”

This “Question of the Day” popped up on my television screen as I watched Court TV’s coverage of the “Priest Accused of Nun’s Murder” trial in Toledo, Ohio on April 27th.

I turned to my computer and shot off an email. “Yes. It has the markings of a ritual murder.” Below my signature, I wrote, “I am a retired psychologist who spent a career working with ritual abuse survivors and wrote a novel about ritual abuse and murder in a small town in the Bible Belt.”

A producer telephoned me the next day. “Our anchors, Lisa Bloom and Vinnie Politan, want to know if they can do a live phone interview with you. They’d like you to tell our viewers how survivors get over ritual abuse . . . and give your impressions of the case.”

For seven minutes on May Day, I spoke for survivors to two million viewers about the reality of ritual abuse.

There was no time to tell two million viewers how I have sat with shattered souls as they recover from ritual abuse or how I have often observed the resiliency of a victim’s human spirit. I’m reminded of a successful professional woman, now a grandmother, who at two years old was laid bare on an altar and dedicated to Satan; at eleven, strapped on a gurney while a burgeoning life was ripped from her not-quite-grownup body. How did she even survive childhood?

Understandably, Bloom and Politan were more interested in what I had to say about the satanic ritual aspects of the case. But I did make the point that satanic cults are not the only venue where ritual abuse occurs.

“The same evils reportedly carried out in the name of Satan” I said, “are also ‘perpetrated in perverted Christianity cults, witchcraft, neo-Nazism, KKKism and other destructive ’isms.’”

In summing up the interview, Bloom stated: “Well, it [Satanism] is, as you say, another destructive ’ism.’”

Although there is controversy over the reality of ritual abuse, each element of the ritual pattern has been documented. It’s just that when we combine all the elements of ritual abuse into one scenario, we get overloaded with horror. (1) sadistic sexual abuse by multiple perpetrators, (2) international organizations of pedophiles/ pornographers/traffickers, (3) desecration of religious institutions, (4) electroshock, (5) mind control, (6) bestiality, (7) sensory deprivation, (8) forced drugging, (9) human and animal mutilations/sacrifices . . . even cannibalism.

Among the deluge of emails I received after the interview, the most poignant response came from a 58-year-old woman.

“I was in the fourth grade when my priest scarred me for life. He was naked except for a vestment over his head and prayed in Latin as he sodomized me in the sacristy of my church in Toledo, Ohio.”

She continued, “I am quite certain there are many more silent victims of satanic ritual abuse in Toledo who have not come forward. The heinous nature of these crimes is such that perpetrators escape justice, as no one wants to believe that anyone, let alone a priest, could be capable of such atrocities. This poor nun may have stumbled upon something for which she was silenced, perhaps as a warning to other victims to ‘keep their mouths shut.’”

Sister Margaret Ann Pahl was brutally murdered in 1980 on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter in the Christian faith; on Holy Saturday, the day that satanic calendars refer to as a holiday requiring a human sacrifice. As tragic as the nun’s apparently sacrificial murder was, perhaps her death was not entirely in vain.

The image of a “Bride of Christ” lying posed, partially naked on that cold sacristy floor with an inverted crossed stabbed over her heart has effectively silenced those who say that there is no proof for the existence of ritual abuse.

Re: Ritual Abuse QUACKS
16 May 2006
A Catholic priest gets convicted of killing someone and Satan gets blamed?

This ‘expert’ on “Satanic Abuse” is just another Torquedama aiding in the torture of innocent people in service to the governments ‘anti-sex” witchhunt. Hundreds of people were victims of America’s third great witchhunt, the massive anti-sex panic that gripped the nation in the 1980s.

This was a veritable witchhunt, much like the Salem witch trials of 1692 and the McCarthy anti-communist scare of the 1950s. Beginning in the late 1970s a mass panic, manipulated by the state in collusion with the religious fundamentalists and anti-sex feminists, engulfed society for well over a decade. People across the nation were led to believe that there was an epidemic of child molestations, satanic ritual abuse of children and sexual predators hiding behind every teacher’s desk. Hundreds of men and women ended up behind bars for crimes that never happened, when the real criminals sat comfortably in their blue uniforms and black robes.

The most infamous of those cases was the McMartin Preschool case in Manhattan Beach, California, which began in 1983. Day-care workers were accused of engaging in satanic sex rituals with children (the case was portrayed in the powerful HBO movie Indictment: The McMartin Trial).

During the six years of trials—during which the state failed to uncover a single piece of credible evidence—an intense hysteria rampaged through the country; many day-care centers were shut down due to child abuse allegations, and a generation of children was brought up to “identify” signs of child molestation, inducing kids to fear being touched by adults.

From coast to coast, there was a series of vicious state prosecutions on charges of “satanic sex rings”; tales of “inappropriate touching” of genital areas and sodomy were laced with accounts of naked dancing, objects shoved up vaginas and anuses, robed figures spiriting children off in airplanes, ritual cannibalization of babies, the drinking of blood—all testimony from the mouths of children, some as young as two, who were invariably treated as unimpeachable witnesses. The accusations veered into the magical, feasting on Americans’ appalling embrace of superstition and religious backwardness; soon the whole country had been taught to believe and even expect such things to be happening everywhere around them.

Debbie Nathan, a journalist who was following other cases of supposed sexual abuse in the country at the time, and had become convinced, through inspecting the evidence and analyzing the testimonies, that people were being convicted for no reason at all. In her book, “Satan’s Silence: Ritual Abuse and the Making of a Modern American Witch Hunt“ (Debbie Nathan and Michael Snedeker [Basic Books, 1995], she talks about the many cases where people were accused of satanic ritual abuse and child molestation based on children’s fantastical testimonies that either were coerced or came after leading questioning that impressed on them what it was that the adults wanted to hear.

Often parents or the cops, not satisfied with the kids’ inability to think up horrifying abuses, would send them to disreputable “doctors” who’d use hypnosis to “unlock the doors” of their memories, as though the human brain were a molecular VCR where a simple push of the button could recover memories forgotten but never lost

Although today news about “satanic abuse” no longer dominates the front pages as it did in the 1980s, many of the victims are still in jail, and the witchhunt’s nationwide apparatus of sex cops, prying social workers and medical quacks, bolstered with millions of dollars, prestige and power, remains firmly in place

Today teenagers suspected of being gay are forced into therapy or boot camps to “convert,” while 9-year-old boys are charged with sexual assault for fondling their classmates, and juveniles are being locked up for statutory rape. Children are simply not allowed to touch one another, while any affectionate adult/child interactions are completely stigmatized.

Today with the internet a new “thought police” has been formed with cops luring unsuspecting pedophiles into setting up dates with imaginary teens to arrest them on “child molestation” charges—think about it, now you can be charged with an imaginary crime against an imaginary victim!

The state has absolutely no right to set limits, regulations or judgment on the private goings-on in people’s lives.

proof ritual abuse did occur at McMartin

McMartin Preschool Story
"In 1983, hundreds of kids disclosed to their parents and therapists that they were abused at the prestigious McMartin Preschool in Manhattan Beach, California. Seven people were arrest and charged with hundreds of counts of child sexual abuse, setting off the longest and most expensive trial in U.S. History (7 years)."(http://members.cruzio.com/~ratf/McMartIntro.html) Additional resources on this trial and related issues are located after this article. The following interview was between Neil Brick, editor of SMART and Jackie MacGauley, mother of one of the alleged survivors of abuse at the McMartin Preschool. All accusations are alleged.
Do you have any proof and references that the children at McMartin were abused?

We were in court for 7 years. Still the longest trial in U.S. history. My daughter and hundreds of people I know deal with the aftermath on a daily basis. Our children’s medical reports and the tunnels which corroborated one of the most 'fantastic stories' the children recounted. The tunnels are documented in a formal report now located at a Law University. The most compelling proof was living with my daughter and dealing with all of her revelations and fears.

Why were the defendants declared not guilty?

The jury very clearly stated that the prosecution did not prove their case. The jurors were convinced that someone did commit the crime. One juror said she would have liked to have heard more from the children. All 7 defendants were held over for trial after the pretrial. Criminal counts were added. Before the trial, when the case was not assigned to a courtroom or judge, District Attorney Ira Reiner decided to drop 5 of the defendants. A memo cited that he did not want any of "These kinds of cases anymore." About 10 other preschools were closed, but there could be no arrests without any possibility of prosecution. It was becoming an embarrassment to his office. I was told by a witness family that one defendant had enough counts and enough evidence to be tried, but Mr. Reiner felt the case would not be successful if he included her. A mother/son situation seemed like a more plausible story. Some child witnesses refused to testify when parents saw how the children were treated on the witness stand by the 7 defense attorneys. Some families were still willing to testify but were never even notified that they were no longer needed.

How do you feel about the media and their involvement in the case and after the case?

At first I was amazed at the attention we got. This is a small town and it involved only a few local families, I thought at the time. I never really did understand why it mushroomed as it did. I ask experts and they give different explanations. Dr. Underwager was speaking out on behalf of the defendants in Jordan, Minnesota. Janet Reno was D.A. in Miami during the Countrywalk case. She won the case when Illiana Fuster testified against her convicted murderer husband, Frank Fuster. The giant Bakersfield case and others started well before the McMartin case.

The media likes to report things that they know will sell their newspapers rather than reality. What happened in court was far from representative of the reality of the crime. Moral of this story, do NOT believe much of what you hear or read in the media.

Do you believe there were tunnels at McMartin? What proof can you offer to verify this?

You are asking the person who actually did the project. We heavily documented our findings in photographs, scientists’ reports and analysis. There were also an abundance of witnesses, including the media. The formal report is housed at a University Law Library at the moment.

If you do believe the allegations at McMartin were true, how long do you believe they were going on? What evidence do you have for this?

My daughter attended the school for 4 months in (Sept through January when it closed) 1982-1983. The most recent allegations began in August, 1982 when Judy Johnson took her 3 year old son to a doctor who reported it to the authorities.
A lot of us parents still talk about what happened. A friend of mine was Mayor during that time. We still console each other over what happened. A lot of us still feel totally disgusted with the whole thing. Compelling (and corroborating) evidence for me and her family and Doctor was a friend who was 44 when she died last October. She was in the second class ever given at the old location, about 1958. Her psychiatrist introduced her to me in 1984.

Do you know about anyone writing articles trying to disprove the allegations at McMartin, and why do you feel they would do this? Do you have any evidence for this?

Some V.O.C.A.L., False Memory Syndrome type affiliates seem to make it a regular task to discredit our children. Their opinions have seeped into popular journalism and, I understand, are used as fact. If you want some good background on how this all began, start with Jan Hollingsworth's book "Unspeakable Acts" for some fantastic documentation of the perp's games. Another highly recommended book is "The Battle and the Backlash" by David Hechler.

There are several urls with information on the McMartin case on the web:

From http://members.cruzio.com/~ratf/McMartIntro.html "But the truth is that the tunnels are there. In fact they are more than just there. The tunnels are extensive, include a large room just as the children said, and lead to further sites off the property. The tunnels were found in an archeological dig under the pre-school conducted by Dr. E. Gary Stickel, archaeologist and director of Environmental Research Archaeologists, a Scientific Consortium."

From http://members.cruzio.com/~ratf/McMartin.html/ "The project unearthed not one but two tunnel complexes as well as previously unrecognized structural features which defied logical explanation. Both tunnel complexes conformed to locations and functional descriptions established by children's reports."

"The tunnel had been completely, artificially filled in with fill which was distinguishable on the basis of color, texture and compaction from the original soil deposit at the site; The fill contained inclusions in the form of a large number of artifacts; The probabilistic dating of the tunnel can be estimated by recovered artifacts."

"The results of the survey by Ground Penetrating Radar proved consistent with discoveries of the subsequent excavations, all of which confirmed not only the basic descriptions of children but also specific details of location, interior features and putative function."

This may be heavy for survivors of abuse to read: "Since the Eberles' first McMartin book appeared in 1989, they have achieved national status as child abuse experts. In courts of law their work is frequently cited, and they lecture widely to receptive audiences. The Eberles once appeared as featured speakers at a conference held by Victims of Child Abuse Laws (VOCAL), an organization that feted "The Politics Of Child Abuse" as positively revelatory....Blurbs in their own pornographic tabloid, L.A. Star, failed to mention that in the 1970s the authors once ran an underground tabloid for pedophiles in Los Angeles, Finger, which delved heavily into sadomasochistic sex, sex with children and sex acts involving human excrement. Finger contained sexual drawings by children and pedophile erotica..."

More proof ritual abuse exists:

Contrary to oft-cited statements from False Memory Syndrome Foundation (FMSF) spokespersons and advocates, sufficient evidence was found at the McMartin daycare center to verify the claims of many of the child victims' statements. This has descriptions of severe abuse
An Empirical Look at the Ritual Abuse Controversy - James Randall Noblitt, Ph.D. “Michael Newton (cited in Noblitt, 1998a) accumulated data on criminal convictions in the U.S. where allegations of ritual abuse of children were made. He found cases of 145 defendants who were sentenced.” “ Pamela Hudson (1991) assessed 24 children in a case of alleged ritual abuse at Fort Bragg day care center in California. Hudson found five symptoms to be present among many of the children.” “Susan Kelley (1993) compared three groups of children in day care: 35 allegedly ritualistically abused children, 32 children reportedly sexually, not ritualistically abuse, and 67 children without any claims of sexual abuse. She collected data from the abused children’s parents and compared the results of the children with non-ritualistic sexual abuse with ritualistic sexual abuse. She found that ritualistically abused children were more likely to report more incidents, types and severity of abuse relative to the non-ritual sexual abuse victims. She also found that ritualistic abuse was more often associated with multiple victim, multiple perpetrator situations.” “"Jill Waterman, Robert Kelley, Mary Kay Olivieri, and Jane McCord (1993) did a six year longitudinal study of 82 children who had made allegations of ritualistic sexual abuse (RSA) in the Manhattan Beach, California area in comparison with 37 non-abused (NA) children and 15 non-ritualistically sexually abused (SA) children. A variety of standardized and non-standardized questionnaires and interview instruments were employed. They found that both the RSA and SA group reported intrusive and highly intrusive sexual abuse. Additionally the RSA group but not the SA group reported “terrorizing acts..." “Recantations occurred in 25% of the RSA and 23% of the SA children. This was the case even though the perpetrator in the SA group had given a detailed confession. However, 88% of the RSA group that recanted, later redisclosed abuse.” “"Snow and Sorenson (1990) saw 39 children who described abuse in five neighbor-based cults in Utah. In four of the five cults there were alleged incidents of intrafamilial incest, perpetration by adolescents, and features of an adult sex ring. No adolescent perpetration was found in the fifth group....At least two-thirds of the children described multiple locations of abuse, pornography, ingestion or other use of excrement, the espousal of Satanic beliefs, magical spells and use of occult paraphernalia, animal mutilation or killing, and the use of drugs. The abusers were generally viewed as respected members of the community and many were religious leaders. Two of the accused adult perpetrators were convicted and two adolescents pled guilty." “Jonker and Jonker-Bakker (1991,1997) reported a case of the ritual abuse of children in the Netherlands. The authors describe the allegations and their observations regarding this case in Oude Pekela.” “Jonker and Jonker-Bakker (1991,1997) reported a case of the ritual abuse of children in the Netherlands. These were compared with 67 nonabused controls....The results of this study indicated that ritualistic abuse was associated with significantly more victims, abused by a significantly greater number of offenders per child....ritualistically abused children experienced more incidents of abuse, more types of abuse, more severe and intrusive sexual acts...more involvement in sexual activity with other children and pornography, more co-occurring physical abuse, and more terrorizing verbal abuse than did the children that were sexually abused without ritualistic elements. Verbal abuse was...violent death threats against the victims (86%) and/or their parents (94%) linked to disclosure of abuse...this study is in agreement with clinical presentations (Crewdson, 1988; Gould, 1987; Kagy, 1986; Strieff, 1988) and previously discussed studies (Faller, 1987; Finkelhor et al., 1988) in documenting ritualistic and Satanic abuse as being marked by a disturbing high level of the most traumatic forms of child maltreatment.” (P. 26 - 27)

I am a 36 yr old survivor of Satanic Ritual Abuse. The abuse happened within my family and the cult which goes back several generations. There are many Masonic connections in my family in all generations ( I know this because there are 'family books' that have been written by my family members tracing our sacred 'Bloodlines' back to the 1100 's. I left home at 16 yrs of age and began therapy and my healing process. I have recovered a lot of memories and have no contact with any of my family. I am also a published author and am writing my second book which I hope to have completed by September 2006. Satanic Ritual Abuse is real. It happens. I am involved in an online support group for SRA survivors and I get a lot of validation. You would be surprized how many survivors there are from all over the world. It can no longer be denied. I am telling my story with my books and I hope to help those who have endured cult abuse. It is sick and has to stop.

You can view my book at: www.cjiwr.com Title of book: Unlocking Buried Secrets
Sincerely,
Victorious Heart

I think anyone who equates the effort to catch child sexual abusing preditors with "thought police" or an "anti-sex witchhunt" is hardly worth taking seriously. This character's post speaks for itself.

When I was about 9 years old, I asked my mom if I could go outside to play "starlight" with the neighborhood kids. My dad had gone to bed early, as usual, but he got up (obviously not asleep).
He camp up behind me in the hallway and held me up by my upper arms and proceeded to knee me in the groin all the way down the hall calling me a whore. My mom stood by and watched. He dropped me to the floor and went back to bed.
Then, my mom told me that I could go outside. I crawled to the door (I was in the foyer) where I reached up to turn the knob on the door so I could crawl outside to the cement porch where I laid my face on it for the comfort of the coldness of it. I cried and cried. The pain and burning was so intense.
For about the next month, I waited all day at school to urinate when I got home. When I got home, I got into a warm bath and urinated in the tub to soothe the pain and burning that the urination caused. There was still pain and burning, but not as bad as it was without the bath water to help soothe the pain to my groin area.
I repressed this memory for many years, but after my preemie son died, I remembered the beating. The doctor told me that I had an "incompetant cervix" (undiagnosed until after the pregnancy) and that trauma may have caused this. My preemie son was born three months prematurely.
My mom told me to have an abortion during this and my second pregnancy and that I "shouldn't have any more kids..that I couldn't handle it." when I told her of my last pregnancy.
I have two healthy children ages 24 and 17 and my preemie son died when he was nine days old.
My parents sexually abused my two children. My dad died three years ago and my mom calls my son a liar (oldest; other is a daughter) for bravely telling of the abuse when he was nine years old (his sister being only two, then).
My dad said, "I'll never admit to it.", referring to the sexual abuse. That is an admission to me.
Even though my mom and my dad were reported, DCFS deemed the case "unfounded". The state's attorney's office stated "lack of evidence" and dropped the case, but offered to have our children drugged and sent back to "gather evidence". We declined this offer.
We reported my parents to DCFS for having contact with our nephews and again, "unfounded".
My mom boasts of spending time with my nephews (even recently) and playing Dungeons and Dragons Monopoly with them "for hours".
My mom used to say, "I wish I'd never had all these kids." when we were growing up. I was the oldest and my brother Gary, was the second oldest and died when he was 36. He was a widower at age 29. He had a girlfriend before he died and they had a son together. He is 17 and his mom died about a year after Gary did, leaving him orphaned. He's been raised by his maternal grandparents out of state and we haven't seen him in 4 years.
My youngest siblings are still very involved with our mom; especially my sister, Kelley. My brother John, lives with his wife out of state. John and Kelley have both been told malicious gossip about me and my family by our mom. My mom talks badly of all of us behind one another's backs, but mostly targets me and my family as the worst...

In Regards to Liam's comments:

"The state has absolutely no right to set limits, regulations or judgment on the private goings-on in people’s lives."

I disagree. The state has the right to prosecute and prevent murder, rape, torture, and other abuses of fellow human beings. That's what this case is about. The satanic symbolism is no reason to discount the crimes that are committed with satanic trappings. The point is: a woman was brutally murdered. If the satanic symbolism points to the possibility, that this murder was done in the context of a belief system which would condone other murders, it's a good idea that we look at that to prevent future murders. Believing in satanists is not the same as believing in satan.

You like to torture people, and help lock them up, but you don't like criticism.

I notice you "anti-sex" police were good at closing down Day Care centers, but you wisely didn't take on the Catholic Church.

So you are not 'crazy' there is a method to your madness.

Wanda, is every one of these counter posts from your files?

Actually Liam, it's attitudes like yours, based in ignorance and fear, that enable the continued trafficking and torture of children.

Catholic priest were raping kids around the world and when they went to the cops nobody would help them. No one needed recovered memories. The cops support the Catholic Church, it’s part of the system. Victims were routinely told that no jury would believe that a priest would rape a child. The Catholic Church had such good publicity that they thought they were untouchable.

Day Care centers were a part of the demands of the Women’ Liberation Movement in the early ‘70’s. They were seen as a way for a woman to have the freedom to work outside the home. The source of women’s oppression is their isolation from the world of work. Day Care allowed women the chance to join the working class and support themselves without a man.

But in the ‘80’s cops didn’t like Day Care. They thought women should be home with their kids. So they loved it when screwballs like you gave them a public relations campaign to shut down Day Care across the country to “save the children.”

How many mothers who need to work are made to feel guilty because they leave their kids in day care? You helped create a climate of fear with your ‘PhD approved’ witch hunt.

No wonder the salacious misery vultures on Court TV wanted to talk to you. Your in the same game they are. Fear mongering to help support the repressive apparatus of the state.

How many innocent people have YOU put in jail?

How many families torn apart by your ilk and the ‘sex police.’

How many children have been forced to memorize your sick fantasies of forced sex or else be told they were “in denial.?”

You plant false memories in people and may ruin them for life because of YOUR sick fantasy world.

healthy dose of common sense

POPULAR MECHANICS did an investigation of the various ‘conspiracy’ claims about 9/11.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/defense/1227842.html

Healthy skepticism, it seems, has curdled into paranoia. Wild conspiracy tales are peddled daily on the Internet, talk radio and in other media. Blurry photos, quotes taken out of context and sketchy eyewitness accounts have inspired a slew of elaborate theories: The Pentagon was struck by a missile; the World Trade Center was razed by demolition-style bombs; Flight 93 was shot down by a mysterious white jet. As outlandish as these claims may sound, they are increasingly accepted abroad and among extremists here in the United States.

To investigate 16 of the most prevalent claims made by conspiracy theorists, POPULAR MECHANICS assembled a team of nine researchers and reporters who, together with PM editors, consulted more than 70 professionals in fields that form the core content of this magazine, including aviation, engineering and the military.

In the end, we were able to debunk each of these assertions with hard evidence and a healthy dose of common sense. We learned that a few theories are based on something as innocent as a reporting error on that chaotic day. Others are the byproducts of cynical imaginations that aim to inject suspicion and animosity into public debate. Only by confronting such poisonous claims with irrefutable facts can we understand what really happened on that day.

I applaud Wanda W. (and the editors) for her comments and support of Ritual Abuse Survivors everywhere.
I can validate her comments as I am a suvivor who took the perpetrator(s) to court for felony criminal crimes. The case was handled by special prosecutors with the Attorney Generals office of KY. The main perpetrator was a Boyscout leader, church deacon, Master Mason, and Nuclear Engineer who spoke to "world leaders, and captains of industry" (from industry publication) etc. etc.
I was believed, am believed, will continue to be believed, because the facts concerning the crimes are true. I have recounted the crimes for the United Nations on several occasions. I have never been disbelieved in the court of local or world opinion by persons who are well educated, well traveled, and understand the nature of torture and rape of all kinds.
It seems that only persons who are unable to accept the legal, documented, and real time realities of these crimes in the file cabinets of law enforcement across the world and in conversations with adult survivors themsleves, face to face, are now disbelieved, debunked, and in many cases, defrocked.
The facts are the facts.
