Urgent Oneida Action Set for October 19 (english)
17 Oct 2002
Due to the immediate threat of the illegal arrest of Danielle Patterson on the Oneida Nation Territory. Residents and Peace Camp members have organized an emergency action this Saturday to reclaim the territory for the Oneida people.
Following a successful Anti-Columbus Day march and rally infront of the Federal Building Syracuse, the residents of the Oneida Nation Territory and their guests at the Oneida Peace Camp have organized an emergency action to reclaim the territory.
Lawyers and Oneida residents have reason to believe that Oneida Nation Police, unable until now to carry out their threats, will attempt to arrest Danielle Patterson on Monday, October 21 for refusing to recognize the Oneida Nation of New York, Inc.'s tribal court.
Fearing an invasion of the territory from Nation Police officers would result in hightened tension and a possibly violent outcome, an emergency action plan was formed for the residents and supporters to take the first step towards resolution.
This Saturday, October 19, an estimated one thousand native and nonnative supporters will reclaim the territory by forming a "human blanket" to keep Nation Police from entering the territory. Refusal to move or let Nation Police onto the territory will last until the groups demands are met.
Danielle Patterson is being tried in Tribal Court for allegedly assaulting an officer during an unauthorized forced armed inspection of her privately owned home. A police video tape of the altercation shows Patterson resisting passively and being assaulted and detained without being arrested or warned of arrest.
Patterson's inspection is part of a systematic genocidal "Beautification" project implemented by the Federally-imposed dictator and CEO of the Oneida Nation, Ray Halbritter. Under Halbritter's project, territory homes are inspected, condemned and demolished without warning or time to make repairs on problems the nation uses to deam the homes unsuitable for living.
Thirteen territory homes have been inspected, and all have been demolished. Patterson has been fighting to protect her home since last November.
Organizers request all concerned people to attend the action this weekend. Physical support is need as soon as possible. Attendees are encouraged to bring warm clothes, water, portable food, camping equipment, video, audio and photo recording equipment, and anything else they might find useful. NO DRUGS ALCOHOL OR WEAPONS are allowed at this event.

DIRECTIONS: NYS Thruway 90 to exit 33. Bear left to 365 west (a left hand turn). Take 365 to 5 west (a right hand turn). Take a left at the intersection of routes 5 and 46 (there is a Friendly's on your left). Follow route 46 until you reach blinking yellow lights near a large blue building. Take a left at those lights, follow the road to the last trailer on the left.
