Human rights for all! (except Jews, Hindus and non-muslim Africans) (english)
25 Nov 2002
Modified: 27 Nov 2002
While muslims kill christians and burn churches in Nigeria, while Islamic terrorists atack Hindu temples and kill women and children the indymedia website can only foucus on attacking Israel. How sad to see. I must have missed all the articles about the sufffering of the Kurds? or how Muslims are enslaving black Christians and animists in Sudan.
It is horrifying to watch as the new left transforms itself into fourth reich!!! Hail chomsky!
Militants Attack Jammu's Raghunath Temple

JAMMU, INDIA, November 24, 2002: A group of heavily armed militants stormed the Raghunath temple in Jammu which was packed with Sunday evening devotees. Throwing grenades and firing from guns, seven people were killed, including one of the attackers, and 28 injured. The militants were still holed up inside the temple and a fierce gun battle with security forces was on amid reports that another terrorist was hiding in a nearby Rupewallah temple and that simultaneous firing was going on there too. Police said an unspecified number of militants entered the temple at around 7 p.m., lobbed 12 grenades and fired at random after they struck at two places in quick succession. The militants first struck at Shaheedi chowk opposite the Congress headquarters and later triggered a blast near a hotel in the market area from where thousands of pilgrims set off to the Vaishnodevi shrine. Earlier, local residents, armed with homemade weapons, had taken to the streets in an attempt to take on the raiders, while the National Security Guard commandos are leaving Delhi for Jammu. The Raghunath temple was the scene of a similar attack on March 30, in which ten people, including three soldiers and two militants, were killed. The temple is visited by hundreds of thousands of Hindu pilgrims from across the country every year.

I find your critique of indymedia and the left to be right on. Our outrage is distributed with a great deal if bias. I often struggle with my involvement in a movement that so often recreates the same oppressions we critique in the greater society. I do think that it is important to continue to struggle for liberation and equality for the working class, for women, for people of color, for members of the queer community, for the earth, and for all those fucked over by the capitalist class. But, as we do, we must pay close attention to how our own biasis effect the way we organize and over what issues we organize.
Unconvinced (english)
25 Nov 2002
Jeff's argument is unconvincing. He claims that injustice perpetrated by Muslim people is ignored on Indymedia, then he uses Indymedia to publicize just such an injustice. Indymedia is made up of those who contribute. If you see a weak spot, post articles about it.

Furthermore, freedom loving people struggle for our own liberation and struggle in solidarity with others who are doing the same. We are in solidarity with those in Palestine, Kurdistan and Kashmir who are fighting oppression. We are against those who work to build new systems of oppression or who target innocents in the name of liberation. Frankly it's hard to distinguish your post from the other anti-Muslim rants I've been hearing too much of lately.

To MK (english)
26 Nov 2002
to MK My critic still stands...

As someone who is in favor of a complete israeli withdrawl from the occupied territories in exchange for real peace I write not as a defender of Israel but as a critic of what is happening to the left.

The post below yours is an amazing example... Some guy went to an Israel paper and cliped out al the stories in the last two weeks in which palastinins have been killed. Yet he failed to even mention the incidents in the last two weeks that led to over 16 Israelis being killed. How the hell is that kind of post supposed to be interpeted as fair reporting. It just stupid...

You say I went on anti-muslim rant... preciley my point ... you see you think its a rant and biased and felt a need to post against what I wrote. why dont you feel the need to post to all the people who are posting garbage and bogus lies about Isreal.

I posted my original comment in a fit of rage... I cant understand why ONLY israel is singled out on indymedia sites. In a weekend of terror across the globe not one post or article was about it. Not to say that the pals dont suffer but so much oprssion is going on across the globe and not a word i said on indmedia about it. I work with in abolitionist movement that frees black slaves from islamic owners in the sudan (i Have spoken with former slaves) indymedia has never even once shown any interst in the story. I have in the past posted stuff on sites aobut wahts going on sudan and you know what response i get back ... "Thats sad but but its america fault or even the zionists and it compares . Now I dont know maybee the intense hatred for Israel is misplaced hatred of America by left leaning folks in the US or maybee indymedia has a lot of arab writers.
Fight racism everywhere (english)
27 Nov 2002
Jeff asks why I dont "post to all the people who are posting garbage and bogus lies about Isreal." I'm not interested in defending any state. I do however counter racism when I see it. Most of my Indymedia posts on this topic have been to expose and counter anti-semitism when it rears it's ugly head. Clearly there are white supremists who are using Isreal's crimes to advance their anti-Jewish racism. Just as clear there are those on the left who reproduce society's anti-semitism.

I'm glad you post information about the Sudan, but don't take one person's ignorant comment to be the view of Indymedia, a resource open to anyone who has web access.
