25 May 2006
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. China, Netherlands, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (May 25) is up at the website
< >in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From CHINA- A report on the expansion of nuclear power in China, including new powerplants that are self-designed and produced. Tony Blair flew to Baghdad on Monday to show his support for the new leaders and point out that there is no timetable for troop withdrawal. 500 British police swept across England to round up potential terrorists.
From NETHERLANDS- Amnesty International released a report on human rights violations in Europe, saying that underlying principles are being undermined in the name of the war on terror. The Health Minister of the Netherlands has announced that newer strains of homegrown marijuana do not pose any health risk and will not be banned. Joint Caribbean Lion 2006 is the name of the military exercises being led by Dutch troops, simulating a response to a UN request for military intervention. The new Israeli Prime Minister is in Washington seeking support for his unilateral redrawing of the map for the Middle East.
From SPAIN- A brief report on military actions in Palestine this week. Violence continues to increase in Afghanistan, with 300 deaths reported in the past 7 days. Amnesty International's recent report said that the doublespeak of the US and Britain had undermined the so-called war on terror and increased human rights violations around the world.
From CUBA- Pentagon spending on secret programs has hit its highest point since the end of the cold war, over $30 billion. Campaigns of disinformation about Iran are increasing, planting false stories in small newspapers which are then picked up by the mainstream press, before being retracted by the original source.

There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line at-

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via < >
There are several other streams that work better- < >Freak Radio Santa Cruz  now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < >
Check out the amazing streams at < >
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- < >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
