PROTEST THE UNJUST FIRING OF THREE LATINA COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS!
Wednesday, June 7, 4pm Outside the Martha Elliot Health Center 75 Bickford Street, Jamaica Plain (A few blocks west of the Orange Line Jackson Square T Stop)
On May 24, Ana LaMarche, Nicolasa Lopez, and Ana Ortiz were unjustly fired by the Martha Elliot Health Center in Jamaica Plain, a part of the Children's Hospital. These three women are HIV outreach workers and respected community activists. They have also been leaders in the immigrant rights movement.
They were fired after protesting unfair labor practices by the health center. Their firings threaten HIV and mental health outreach programs that affect thousands of African-American, Latino, Cape Verdean, and Haitian residents in working class areas of Boston. They are also an act of intimidation against efforts to form a union at the Martha Elliot Health Center.
Join community members in demanding that the health center give Ana, Nicolasa, and Ana their jobs back and issue a public apology! An injury to one is an injury to all!
There will also be a day-long picket on Monday, June 19th, starting at 11:00 AM outside the Children's Hospital (300 Longwood Ave - Close to the Green Line "D" train Longwood stop or the Green Line "E" train Longwood Medical Area stop.) |

Why do I think this Holy Trinity of "Latinas" (what, they're not Americans?) may have been let go for some other reason than union organizeing. What does the Eliot Center say?
You know, Childrens Hospital and nonprofits, and wealthy people who make nonprofits possible don't have to pay for an Eliot Center. Perhaps like previous immigrant groups like Irish, Italians and Jews, the "Latinos" (whatever the hell that means, could start charities for their own community). Of the billions spent by this community on drugs, CD's and cars, do you think 5% could be contributed to Latino health centers, youth centers and god forbid, cultural centers?
Of course, most of these people could get social services and support IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. My obligation to pay for f expensive treatment drugs for HIV of an illegal is ZERO. And given the propensity of Latina women to breed and breed at the ages of 13+, and the relatively low cost of condoms, maybe Latino guys could do something themselves, like wear a condom over their macho dicks. |

Maybe it's because you're jealous that you can't call yourself anything other than 'american.' what, just because you are so insecure with this country's diversity, they can't call themselves anything other than 'americans'?
oh yeah, it's "organizing" by the way, not "organizeing" - you'd figure someone who has been in this country long enough to claim to represent it so arrogantly would learn english a little better.
damn, you really have some serious issues with latinos huh? obviously that's fuelled by your ignorance- there are many, many latino cultural, and youth programs in the boston area alone, some publicly funded and many private groups. but see, there's nothing wrong with accepting public funds for the health of any community, or are you suggesting all the irish-focused drug treatment programs and cultural activities sponsored by the city and state should be shut down too?
many people come to the us from ***LATIN*** america because the communities and economies OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY have been destroyed by american policies and thugs trained and funded by the us military. if only you and your ilk were more inclined to speak up so vehemently against such insane american policy, many of these people you seem to find so objectionable might be back home building fruitful and dignified lives instead of listening to the pathetic venom of idiots like you.
just so you don't spew this ignorance all over indymedia again (i'm not holding my breath) 'latina' refers to a person's ethnicity and gender, not her nationality. not everyone eats a diet of fox news and wonder bread, and not everyone identifies simply as 'american.' |

I'm proud to be an American. It's a privilege.
What's wrong with "latinos" [sic] funding their own charities? What's wrong, they're not as inteliigent, compassionate, innovative, creative, sharing as prior immigrant groups? You aren't going to say that these wetbacks aren't as clever as prior immiigarnts, are u mr. "i love everybody, borders are obsolete"? |

Oh shell, one other thing. what's with this pathetic predictable thing you libs have with anyone who disagrees with you as a "fox news" listener. Fox News is much too liberal for my taste. |

rocky's peeved...
tricky dick cheney requires that the tv's in his hotel be preset to the fox news channel. if what our latterday fuhrer prefers is not far right enough for you, well what can i say? we knew you were an asshole, now at least we know you're a fascist too.
by the way, for most people on imc, 'liberal' is an insult- the libs are just as much sellouts as the cons, only they can't bring themselves to admit it.

Teehee. Cheney a fuhrer? How come he couldn't stop the arrest of his Goebbels, Mr. Libby. I would have agreed with you a few years as to the difference between liberals and radicals, but even liberals in Congress are now so anti-American and pro-illegal immigrant that the lines are blurring. One of my favorite old folk songs was Phil Ochs' love me i'm a liberal. Phil hanged himself when he realized nothing would ever change in America.. at least he had the honesty to know that radicals and liberals were ultimately both full of hot air. |

that's not a nice thing to say about Bernie Sanders, Cynthia Mckinney or Barabara Lee. I respect them for consistency even if they didn't meet an income transfer program they didn't love or military program they didn't hate. And the Massachusetts congressional delegation on the whole opposes anything Bush likes except perhaps for his immmigration legalization.
I don't like most of the Republicans because they vote for big fat federal spending programs and for legalization of aliens. But I try to distinguish a hack like Denny Hastert from a good Conservative like those from fine states like South Carolina, Indiana and Texas.
We can't smear people. make distinctions! (except when you are in a foul mood, then let er rip, I do). |
