The Cost of War Project of the Massachusetts
Green-Rainbow Party is organizing a peace/anti-war
demonstration alongside the Boston Marathon route on
Heartbreak Hill under the slogan:

We invite other peace activists and organizations and
Green locals to join us or organize their own
non-obstructive standouts along the Marathon route.
We encourage others to use the slogan "Peace for the

Just as U.S. bombing and attacks have continued in
Afghanistan for months after the U.S. declared victory
there, it is quite likely that the fighting in Iraq
and the civil and humanitarian crisis will continue
for months, despite any declaration by the U.S.
government or the American media of "victory." The
active war will also be followed by a prolonged U.S.
military occupation and U.S. domination of the oil
fields and civil administration of Iraq. We will also
be demonstrating against this military occupation and
new colonialism in the standout on April 21st.

In addition, the Bush administration's belligerent
statements regarding Syria, Iran, North Korea, and
others mean that the U.S. government is laying the
groundwork for permanent war mobilization. Thus, even
if "victory" has been declared in Iraq by April 21st,
we believe it is important to demonstrate for peace
and against war on Patriots Day. The Boston Athletic
Association, organizer of the Boston Marathon, is
encouraging patriotic displays along the Marathon
route (see

The 26-mile Boston Marathon begins in Hopkinton, MA at
11:45 a.m. for the wheelchair start and at noon for
others. Because of the anticipated crowds on
Heartbreak Hill in Newton (between mile 20 and 21 on
the race course), we are encouraging peace
demonstrators to arrive at Grant Avenue beginning at 9
a.m., even though runners will not reach there for
many hours after that. Grant Avenue is about six
blocks east of Centre Street in Newton and about ten
blocks west of the Boston College / Green Line T-stop,
on Commonwealth Avenue.

Coolidge Corner (english)

Sounds like a great idea as long as it is non-obstructive. Anyone care to join me in the Coolidge Corner area?

They will try to block the marathon. The marathon runners will get angry, the police will fire tear gas and bullets, and then the protesters will be all banged up and sad.
