Council Avoids Vote on New Red $ox Stadium
07 Dec 2000

Wednesday afternoon the Boston City Council postponed a vote that would shut down funding for the New RedSox ballpark. The councilor had the 5 votes necessary to block the subsidy and land taking up to the last minute when Mickey Roache, with pressure from labor and other councilors, decided it would be best to hold off. The council doesn't want to take a stand on the issue and risk political fall out.

As for pressure from labor - listen up. There are better ways to create construction jobs than stealing a billion dollars from the citizens (in taxes, land, property tax subsidy and interest)in order to rip down a landmark old ballpark and 45 local businesses. Hopefully somehow the Council can obtain the sac to shutdown this crime.

Smart growthis for the long term. There's no need to create jobs with a new stadium.
