Let's do An UnWelcome the DNC protest?! (english)
06 Sep 2003
Modified: 08 Sep 2003
NYC activists are organizing an "UnWelcome the RNC" protest during the Republican's Convention in NYC.

I'm thinking Boston activists and NY activists should join forces and make this one of two protests.
After all, it was hardly just the Republicans who voted for the war. Further, we will be quite the fools if we think that change will come by challenging the Repub's alone, or for that matter it is just about the present loonies in the white house. IT is much more. Remember reasonable Dems voted for the war, NAFTA, support the WTO, FTAA, etc. etc.

Ultimately it comes down to: What do we want and what do we believe. Do we really believe that the Dems and their allegiance with the corporate order shouldn't be equally held accountable?!

so, a protest at the DNC in Boston: Why not?!

This was sent to NYC IMC site regarding thinking about doing a sister protest against the DNC>>>

weird to just seperate the two., on a tactical level.

and get all propetious about NYC.

whatever. kinda not thought-thru stuff and will be received as sorta half-baked round the world. in other words won't contribute much.

not solid solidartiy coordination convergence kind of thing. could be more and smarter. and really take a stand for the people, for the prog/radical left, etc. etc.

this way it is fireworks and cute-anarchists have a politico show. Typical Leftism stuff more then anything. Only difference is that the new generation designs more "subversive" and stylish websites the baby-boomers. Otherwise, it is the same scene: narcissicsm coming first over smart poltical strategies which could stimulate more then just your friends to come out and could have long term effects. That could send signals across the whole spectrum of the System. This is just boring old oppositional politics in a bit of contemporary anarcho-situationist drag. Where is the virus mentality. Where is the sense of really doing this in solidarity with workers the world over. WHY is there no effort being made to organize a sister protest against the DNC?

Take this effort out. The system , and these elites are the problem. It is not just the Republicans. Don't play their game. You are doing just what they want. See this way, they can say: "Hey USA we are benevolent, we are business-Normal Man, these New Yorkers are crazy-- at least some of em. And they really need our patronizing help when we can give it. Hence, we can't give this freak city help now, but rather we will spend time with them later. Now we must battle on towards Normalcy. Power. Our Democracy with God on Our Side. Thank you O' Sad Freak Protestors for helping us to Show America How Benevolent and Kind we are to You Weird People the World Over. Onwards to Our Control and Dominance. It is Peace.' That sort of thing.

However, if it is known from the start that there will be a sister protest against the DNC, and that this whole thing is planned precisely like that, there can be no chance for playing so heavy on the freak element. Cause we would be bringing attention to the whole System of these corporate elites not just upon the Republicans in some bizarre and one-dimensional oppositional politics. They would be forced into silence, at the level of playing Good Father Figure (a position they just love to go to), because their patronizing approach would be countered by the fact that this was more thought out then simply attacking them. That it was about the present System and not just some "villifying'" of them.

This is a battle for hearts and minds. Not a pissing contest.

Be teen-dreamed in spirit, yes, but solid in strategy and tactics. This is a different confrontational moment then a WTO meeting. It needs to be handled differently. IT could send a far more effective message, then that we don't like the Republicans and what they stand for. Who does? Don't you see how this plays into a dialectics of approval for the Dems as well...

Hell yes.

Date and location:

Not sure where we'd organize a protest if the convention is in the Fleet Center. I think the details can be ironed out in the next year. We've got plenty of time, so let's make this good.
It's happening. (english)

There is already a group in Boston orgainizing around opposing the DNC in 2004. The call-to-action, website, posters, etc., should be available within the month. This group is explicitly anti-authoritarian and can be contacted at dnc2004 (at) .
