MEDIA ADVISORY
“CORPORATE WHORES” TO PARADE OUTSIDE DEMOCRATIC DEBATE
WHO: The Massachusetts Anti-Corporate Clearinghouse, a statewide group dedicated to helping the people of Massachusetts confront corporations’ subversion and take over of our democracy.
WHAT: A parade in which six activists dressed as “corporate whores,” representing the six Democratic Party presidential candidates whose campaigns are driven by large corporate contributions, will be led on leashes a leash by their “pimp,” the Democratic Party, while “corporate executives” in suits bid for the candidates services. Other activists will pass out “Corporate Whore Trading Cards” to help people keep track of which corporations are funding which candidates.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 4, 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Outside Faneuil Hall, Boston
WHY: The Democratic Presidential candidates present themselves as an alternative to a Republican administration that wages war, erodes civil liberties, denies people health care, exploits workers, and destroys the environment, but six of them have ties to corporations that profit from the policies these candidates claim to oppose:
Howard Dean, despite his outsider image is receiving major campaign contributions from IBM, Time-Warner, and Microsoft.
John Kerry has received major campaign contributions from Citigroup which is notorious for funding projects that destroy the environment and displace poor communities around the world.
Wesley Clark worked as a lobbyist on aviation security issues for Axciom, a company that is accused of illegally sharing customer information with the Pentagon.
Joseph Lieberman has received major campaign contributions from the insurance industry. Throughout his political career he has helped United Technologies receive contracts for weapons systems, including arms exports to human rights abusers like Colombia.
Richard Gephardt throughout his political career has helped to secure military contracts for the Boeing (formerly McDonnell-Douglas) plant in St. Louis.
John Edwards has received major campaign contributions from the investment firm of Goldman Sachs.
