Teamsters Local 122 endorses Wilson for state Auditor
16 Aug 2006
Teamsters Local 122 – a union of beverage distribution and public employees in the greater Boston area – has endorsed Rand Wilson for state Auditor.
"When Rand was Director of Jobs with Justice back in the early 1990s, he worked tirelessly to support the members of Local 122 during our historic Miller Beer boycott to stop union busting at a local distribution company. And he has stood by our members ever since," said Local 122 Secretary-Treasurer John Murphy.

"Our endorsement sends a message to those politicians who have too often taken Teamster support for granted," continued Murphy. "That's why we are organizing a new, independent Working Families Party and why we are proud to stand with the Rand in his bid for Auditor."

Murphy is a member of the Mass Ballot Freedom campaign's steering committee.

The Ballot Freedom campaign supports passage of a statewide referendum question in November's election that would allow an independent, issue-based party – like the Working Families Party – to support major-party candidates on its own ballot line. It gives voters an opportunity to support independent political parties but not waste their vote on someone who can't win, or inadvertently elect the candidate that they least support.

With Ballot Freedom, citizens could vote for a Democrat or Republican on the Working Families Party ballot line, showing their support for the party's pro-worker platform. Although banned in Massachusetts in 1912, seven other states still allow cross-endorsements. The Working Families Party has been the margin of victory in several tight races in New York State and is a growing force in Connecticut.

"As a former Teamster staffer and long-time friend of Local 122, it's a special honor to have this vote of confidence," said Wilson. "With growing support from unions and community groups, I'm confident that we will change the face of politics in Massachusetts forever."

The Wilson for Working Families campaign has also been endorsed by ACORN's Political Action Committee, Communications Workers of America Local 1365, IBEW Local 2222, United Electrical Workers Northeast Region, Women's Health Institute, and Women's Universal Health Initiative.

No votes for this labor faker!
16 Aug 2006
Wilson wants to trap workers and their organizations in the Democratic Party's deadly embrace, by promoting the fraudulent "Working Families Party".

We need a real workers party, independent politically and organizationally of the bosses! Workers: reject this cynical fraud!
