Class Struggle Brigade

Meet us Monday, Sept. 4, 3:30 PM at the corner of Westminster and Weybosset Sts.

Two weeks before Labor Day, the union bureaucrats in Providence have finally announced plans for a march for workers rights and immigration reform. Since the historic general strike for immigrants rights on May Day, Working Class Emancipation, a fighting socialist propaganda group, has been demanding that the union leaders mobilize labor's power in defense of immigrants' rights on Labor Day. Don't be confused: despite the last-minute announcement of a mobilization, the union presidents have no intention of doing this. They want to use Labor Day to rally support for the same Democratic politicians who have been complicit in the racist attack on immigrant workers and the bloody, criminal occupation of Iraq. They are organizing under the slogan of "One Providence", promoting the utopian notion that the working people of Providence have anything in common with the businesses, banks, and landlords who own City Hall. We will use the Labor Day march as a platform to raise demands in the interests of the working class, to promote a break with the Democrats and all the bosses' parties, and to call for the formation of an independent workers' party. Labor Day belongs to the workers, not the sell-out union bureaucrats and politicians! We want to work with everyone who takes the side of the workers, including our comrades in the other socialist groups, to mobilize for Labor Day independently of the class-collaborationist politics of the union tops and non-profit agencies. Help us build the Labor Day class struggle brigade!

Our slogans:

Drive US imperialism out of the Middle East!

Democratic politicians may try to get your vote this November by making vague complaints about the war in Iraq. But their differences with the war criminals in the White House are only tactical: they aren't against the war, they just think they can manage Wall Street's global empire more efficiently than Bush and the Republicans. Only the massive, independent mobilization of the workers can halt US imperialism's criminal wars of aggression.

Full citizenship rights for all immigrants!

The march organizers are calling for "immigration reform", but they are purposefully vague about what they mean by this, because their real intention is to put the brakes on the movement for immigrants rights that took to the streets on May 1st, and direct it into support for the Democratic party! We say, we need more May Day strikes! We must shut down production with general strikes, demanding full citizenship rights for all immigrants! They say they are "ask[ing] that Rhode Island share its prosperity with those who make it possible." But since when have thieves (the bosses, bankers, and landlords) "shared" their loot (profits) with the people they rob (the workers)? We say nationalize the banks and the big industries under workers' control!
