3 Boston Actions vs. Occupations of Palestine & Iraq
16 Nov 2006
Three actions against the occupations of Palestine and Iraq this weekend.
apr12-03-0368.jpg
1. Tell the Israeli Government:
STOP KILLING PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS!

WHEN:
Thursday, November 16
12:30-1:30 pm

WHERE:
The Israeli Consulate, 20 Park Plaza, Boston (near Arlington T stop)

WHO:
Jewish, Arab and other community members protest deadly Israeli assaults on Gaza. Please wear black!

WHAT:
Bostonians of conscience will send the consulate the message that representatives of the Israeli government are not welcome in our city as long as the Israeli government and army continue to murder Palestinians indiscriminately, hold Gaza under siege, build an Apartheid Wall through the West Bank, destroy the livelihood of millions of people, ignore UN resolutions and international law, and deny basic human rights to Palestinian people!

WHY:
Using U.S. weapons paid for by our tax dollars, Israeli military forces have killed 77 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in the past two weeks! On Wednesday, November 8, the Israeli military shelled five homes in the Al-Kafarnah neighborhood, leaving 18 civilians dead, including 7 children, 6
women and 11 members of the same family. Between 2000 and 2006, Israel has killed 2,300 Gazans, including 300 in the past 4 months.

Our U.S. tax dollars -- sent to Israel as "international aid"-- have provided much of the weaponry used to attack Palestinian civil society.

The Israeli consulate in Boston is one of 9 Israeli consulates in the country. This week, protests will be held at Israeli consulates around the nation and around the world, in response to an urgent call for assistance from Palestinian organizations and international solidarity groups.

2. Confront War Criminal General Abizaid, Commander of U.S. forces in Iraq

Tell him we're not having his "Long War"!
We want the U.S. out of Iraq and we want it now!

Friday, November 17
4:30 pm
Harvard, 79 JFK St, Cambridge

This Friday, General John Abizaid, the commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East (including Iraq and Afghanistan) will be speaking at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University on "Challenges of the Long War." Please join us in protesting his speech to say Bring the troops home now! U.S. out of Iraq! All corporations and all military bases out!

On Tuesday, voters in dozens of Massachusetts towns voted overwhelmingly in favor of a referendum calling for immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. Polls show that around the country, over 60 percent of Americans oppose the war. We are sick and tired of a war that has killed 655,000 Iraqis and over 2800 U.S. troops, while draining away over $2 billion a week.

Now, General Abizaid is coming to Harvard to try to justify the war in Iraq as part of the unending "war on terror," which he has given the name "The Long War." But the war in Iraq has done nothing to make the world safer, it has terrorized the world. The brutal U.S. occupation, symbolized by names like Fallujah and Abu Ghraib, has only given us death, despair, and anger.

"The Long War," a phrase that Donald Rumsfeld has used to frame the war on terror as "a generational conflict akin to the Cold War" that might last decades, is meant to provide a cover for increased military presence in the Middle East for generations to come.

It has been used to justify huge increases in military spending, with a record Pentagon budget of $513 billion for 2007, meaning less money for our schools and communities, as well as attacks on our civil liberties, legalization of torture, racism against Arabs and Muslims, and more.

Come confront Abizaid and tell him that we're not having his "Long War"!

3. STOP THE WAR AND THE WAR PROFITEERS

Assemble to Beats for Peace: Boston Common, 12:00 Noon

March Against the Profiteers: 1:30 PM

Indoor Rally: 3:30 P M
Encuentro Cinco, 33 Harrison Ave., Chinatown

With over 100 U.S. soldiers and thousands of Iraqis killed in October alone, it is plain to see that the U.S. occupation is intensifying the conflict in Iraq. On Saturday, November 18th the Greater Boston Stop the Wars Coalition is calling for an outpouring of opposition to this criminal war and to serve notice to the war makers that they are not getting off the hook after the elections. A march and indoor rally is being organized not just against the politicians who have maintained and deepened the occupation, but also against those who are enjoying huge profits from the occupation and the resulting death and devastation.

Bechtel, which gained notoriety during the "Big Dig", was awarded $680 million in contracts for Iraq. Raytheon, the fifth largest war contractor, has experienced record quarterly profits of $5.152 billion! Halliburton, the infamous brainchild of Dick Cheney, has been awarded an open contract in Iraq, with no limit to the time required, and no limit on money spent! How may more will die in this war for profits and domination? How many more billions will be poured into this endless quagmire? Join us in denouncing companies profiteering from the occupation as we march on their offices.
