SPRINGFIELD, MA, April 9 -- As part of the national emergency days of action over 40 people attended a rush hour demonstration at Mason Square Triangle in the heart of Springfield's working class and oppressed community April 9.

Organized in less than 24 hours by Arise for Social Justice and Western Mass ANSWER, the multinational crowd included youth/students, homeless activists, union members and family members of GIs being used as cannon fodder by the U.S. in Iraq.

For over two hours as traffic streamed by, the majority of drivers honked in support of the crowd's messages which included a massive banner declaring "Support Our Troops: Bring Them Home Alive," and placards such as "End the occupation," "Money for Jobs not War," and "Stand Against War and Racism." Chants such as "U.S. out of the Middle East: No Justice No Peace," and "1,2,3,4, We don't want your racist war," kept the crowd's spirits up.
