Attacks on revolution books detroit
13 Jul 2004
1. Revolution Books Outlet has had a booth at every Concert of Colors since its inception. This year, New Detroit has banned RBO from the event. It appears to be based on a bogus attempt to label RBO’s support for the struggle of the Palestinian people as anti-Jewish. This is at a time of an escalating war on the Palestinians by Israel, and the U.S., as part of their war on the peoples of the Middle East, and a fascist clampdown in the U.S. in which Arab people have been the first targets. RBO has been on point against this war and repression, providing literature which shows that the war on the Middle East is a strategic part of the U.S. empire’s plans for world domination,

RBO has been on point against this war and repression, providing literature which shows that the war on the Middle East is a strategic part of the U.S. empire’s plans for world domination, calls for massive resistance to war and repression, and poses the need for revolution, including in the U.S. Banning RBO from the Concert of Colors is censorship, book-burning, like the attacks on Fahrenheit 911, part of a climate where all support for liberation struggles is labeled as terrorist and debate and protest are labeled as treason.

2. RBO is a revolutionary bookstore which features Marxist-Leninist-Maoist literature, especially that of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA, and its chairman, Bob Avakian. In 2003 Chairman Bob Avakian delivered an historic talk in the United States, soon available on video and DVD. This talk is a wide-ranging revolutionary journey. It breaks down the very nature of the society we live in and how humanity has come to a time where a radically different society is possible. Full of heart and soul, humor and seriousness, it will challenge you and set your heart and mind to flight. As Wil-Dog, Jiro and Uli from the band Ozomatli said, "Avakian is a revolutionary leader whose voice must be heard far and wide today." At a time when the horrors of this system are driving many to look for answers about how to change the world, forces in New Detroit are trying to keep the truth that Bob Avakian and other MLM literature uncovers from the Concert of Colors audience, especially proletarians of different nationalities and youth. New Detroit arose in 1967, trying to chill out the rebellion and revolutionary aspirations of Black people in this city and it looks like they’ve still got the franchise.

3. This is a serious attack on Revolution Books Outlet, and on the Revolutionary Communist Party, which is looked to for political leadership by the staff of RBO. This may well be an attempt to isolate and set up the RCP, USA, and its chairman, Bob Avakian, in the context of the Patriot Act and the fascist clampdown that is part of Bush & the Imperialists’ agenda, and in the context of revolutionary possibilities where communist leadership will make the difference between seizing such openings or throwing them away.

4. This is also an attack on the Concert of Colors, where RBO has been one of the most popular vendors and has drawn large crowds from a broad spectrum of the festival audience, who might not get to visit RBO otherwise. This is an attempt to mainstream the event, to restrict its diversity, keep out controversial and thought-provoking ideas. What’s a Concert of Colors if "red" is going to be banned? What or who will New Detroit ban next year if they are allowed to get away with this?

New Detroit is saying that it’s a "done deal" that RBO won’t have a booth at this year’s festival. We don’t accept that and we don’t think anyone who has any thoughts or dreams about changing the world should tolerate it. We urge people to call and e-mail New Detroit and let them know you expect to see Revolution Books Outlet at this year’s festival, July 16th to 18th, new revolutionary video/DVD and all!

Make a call right away to John Rakolta, Chairman, and Shirley Stancato, President and CEO, of New Detroit! Phone:(313) 664-2000; Fax (313) 664-2071; sstancato (at) newdetroit.org.

Isnt it STRANGE? This "attack" was called last year
14 Jul 2004
Seems that a certain person was selling bumper stickers at Revolution Books last year, and refused to heed warnings that there would be repurcussions. I would call this successful banning of Revolution Books "repurcussions" wouldnt you? ESPECIALLY notice the reasons cited. Anti-Semitic? Hmmmm. Seems to me like that certain bumper sticker salesman was also labeled Anti-Semitic. Of course, there is absolutely NO connection whatsoever.
At least you got "labeled" right.

He's no anti-semite. The label was applied to recruit morons like the guy who posted the "tip." I suppose if a member of the RCP tripped over a curb that would be related too?

Duh...

Please clarify about the stickers, I don't understand. Also, if the attack on the RCP is wider than just this store, it should be examined as unconstitutional and USA PATRIOT Act crap. On the otherhand, this post was annoying to read because of all the rhetoric. We all know how fascist and imperialist the government is, the world's just make the post read more like a rant and less like facts. Having a friend in the RCP I realize that they get crap, but what do they expect? Not that it's right, but this country has a little history with Red Scares, not to mention that the RCP basically calls for armed revolution, so duh, the government will target you. Not saying that it should, but that is legal since RCP advocates "illegal" activities.
Why certainly. I can be VERY specific.

The certain person was Stephen DeVoy. A group called KOBE threatened to do "something" to the Lucy Parsons Center because DeVoy was hawking his lame bumper stickers there which depicewdted, among other things, an upside down American Flag. There were vehement anti-American slogans and anti-government statements as well.

DeVoy was warned that the Lucy Parsons Center would suffer because of their decision to allow DeVoy to push his propaganda there. At the same time, Revolution Books was also letting him sell the stickers from their store. Within one week, the Parsons Center was raided by the Secret Service for suspicion of harboring "unknown materials". The KOBE group claimed responsibility BEFORE the raid. They also warned that Revolution Books was next. That was almost a year ago. The method used for the Parsons Center failed with Revolution Books, so another one was developed. It culminated with this ban. Believe what you want, but also know this:

KOBE was involved with the Sherman Austin situation.

KOBE successfully shut down THREE of DeVoy's websites: stop-fascism.org, breakyourchains.org, whiterosejournal.org

KOBE reported the fact that Sherman Austin's site was still open after he was incarcerated, and it was permanently shut down as well.

Anti-Semitism is anti-American. Racism is anti-American. Anarchism is anti-EVERYTHING. This government and the country under which it is run is the greatest nation on Earth. Its not perfect, but its the best we have at the moment. I, for one, am very proud to be an American.

The Revolutionary Communist Party is subversive to the constitutionally mandated government of this country. All activities connected with this party (as well as any anarchist or other form of government other than Democracy) should be considered an ATTACK on Americans nationwide. Having dissent within the framework of the existing government is one thing, but attempting to overthrow the government in favor of a failed system like communism or socialism will NOT be tolerated. If you dont like it here, then GET THE FUCK OUT. At least in America, you are free to leave. The last great communist state (USSR) didnt allow that.

We were raided? News to me. My recollection was that we were visited and asked a few questions about a suspicious peice of mail. That's it. Pretty sure it had nothing to do with weird bumpersticker guy.
