Democrats remove Aljazeera banner
26 Jul 2004
Organisers at the Democratic Party convention in United States have removed Aljazeera's logotype banner from its skybox without assigning reasons.
Aljazeera's skybox is one of the several that media organisations use as broadcast booths to cover the upcoming convention in Boston to confirm John Kerry's nomination as George Bush's presidential challenger in November.

"We found that the banner disappeared for some reason," Aljazeera's Washington bureau chief Hafez al-Mirazi said.

"We contacted the Democratic National Convention and the people who are organising the convention. And then they said it has been removed, maybe for lack of enough space or something like that, although they approved originally the sign and everything on it. And every time we get different answers."

"And finally, they said, 'Sorry, we cannot put it back." And it's the only news organisation sign that was taken," al-Mirazi pointed out.

A convention spokeswoman said Aljazeera is not a special case.

"Our first priority is putting a convention on, not advertising for the media," Peggy Wilhide said.

In place of Aljazeera's logotype will be a banner reading "Strong for America."

ANSWER removes protester.

"As someone attempted to remove Gendron's sign he dove to the ground to lay on his sign" Maybe Aljazeera should have layed down on their sign to stop it from being removed

"A man wearing neo-Nazi-themed clothes was thrown out by members of the generally liberal crowd"

"Anti-abortion activists were also escorted from the park by police after arguing with other protesters."

looks like the "pigs" were on your side today.

Oh well......

now Kerry is telling the other democrats that there speaches are supposed to be positive...Gore is not allowed to Bash Bush....this is utterly absurd.
"Rants questioning Mr. Bush's veracity or military record, or denouncing his "creed of greed," in Mr. Kerry's phrase of a few months ago, are all very much out."

I guess skull and boner buddies stick together. This is unbelievable. What has the democratic party become??

Our entire society is majority bigots, people are all too willing to swallow the call to hate Arabs... this banner-removal sadly is not a surprise. If it weren't for the effectiveness of the Iraqi resistance, this latest slam by self-styled "liberals" and "humanitarians" would be depressing.

Victory to the Iraqi resistance!

The reason for the removal of Al Jazeera's banner seems obvious: The Democratic Party remains thoroughly racist, and do not want the general public watching on television to question in any way their committment to genocide, apartheid, and wars against Arab nations.

My guess is that Aljazeera is not funding the DNC or RNC, and is therefore not getting the glamorous treatment that other media outlets are. Racism aside, it's all about money.

Perhaps they just didnt' want to be called the "party of Jew-bashing", which is what would have happened if Al-Jews-Outta had been allowed to have their banner on the national news. Will you idiots please wake up and realize that there are 150,000,000 people out there who will elect a president and they don't really relate to Jew killers.

Whatever it's about, the incredible lack of tact is the most horrific thing here. I mean, of all the channels to harass. People can read into this any way they want, and giving the sensitive time, not a very wise move seeing as Fox are still allowed to broadcast their "news" channel.
