great job with the coverage so far, boston IMCers. i like that you're putting so many features up from first-hand accounts on not doing the traditional "well polished summary" thing that so many other IMCs do. |
this approach, of going straight from the newswire, is much more honest and accessible and not-elitist. looks like you're taking the lead of portland IMC, which has been doing features like this for a couple years now.
you might take another cue from the portland folks and root out the regular trolls. their contributions are disruptive and tend to take posts away from their meanings. they also make the site less fun to read. not a huge problem yet but it certainly could be as the action heats up. that's fairly typical to happen during a big protest. |

Please Don't Feed the Trolls
Wikipedia defines an Internet Troll as: "An Internet troll is either a person who sends messages on the Internet hoping to entice other users into angry or fruitless responses, or a message sent by such a person." Boston IMC strives to provide both a grassroots media resource as well as a forum for people to contribute to a meaningful discussion about local issues. Please, when posting comments, be respectful of others and ignore those trying to interrupt or discourage meaningful discourse. Thank you.

i disagree, and that poster obviously is from portland because they are completely out of touch with reality. first-person accounts are all well and good, but eventually you DO need an overview about what the hell is actually going on, or else the site is useless.
you could say that its non-elitist, but you could also say that its a case of not having enough volunteers and not knowing YOURSELF what the heck is going on. I expect much better things out of NY in a month. |

true dat is false dat.
boston imc articles aren't just "first-person accounts." they're a form of journalism that uses first-person accounts AND investigative reporting to cover an incident(s) and provide context. incredibly useful and lends itself to media for and by people. keep on boston imc. you're doing boston proud. |

Suggesting that I the reader need you the editor to write an overview for me is elitist and insulting. Various peoples first hand accounts give a fine overview. I do not need some editor interpreting events for me thanks. Putting their own spin on it. Let the people talk! That is the beauty of indymedia. |
