Three Arrested Over “Molotov Cocktail” (Translation: Empty Plastic Bottle)
29 Jul 2004
BOSTON- According to Police Superintendent Robert Dunford, police saw what appeared to be a molotov cocktail in a crowd inside the "free speech zone" and moved to arrest it’s owner at around 4pm today. During the arrest the officers were surrounded by a disapproving crowd, and had to negotiate their way out with a member of the Black Tea Society. As soon as their freedom was negotiated and the crowd began to open up, some pushing and shoving occurred, and according to the police, punches were thrown. According to eyewitnesses at the scene who were not wearing blue, the “molotov cocktail” was merely an empty plastic bottle. The item the police held up as evidence at a news conference this evening was covered in newspaper, concealing the material it was made of.
“There was no necessity to have any item like this that could be mistaken for a molotov cocktail unless you were trying to provoke an incident,” said Supt. Dunford.

As to the alleged punches thrown at the police, the police seem to be the only ones at the scene that saw them. Indymedia video (that may be posted later) shows police grabbing at least one of the arrestees from behind. Activists do admit there was some jostling around and pushing, but no punches. At the same press conference Supt. Dunford stated: “We did not provoke this incident but we will not allow our officers to be assaulted.” But according to eyewitnesses, no officers were assaulted.

In the end, three activists were arrested. Two for disorderly conduct, and one for assault and battery. Keep your eyes on the newswire for upcoming video footage of the scuffle.

Re: Three Arrested Over “Molotov Cocktail” (Translation: Empty Plastic Bottle)

It's a fact that someone removed a police officer's hat and threw it. The hat landed on the sidewalk near me. I later saw a hatless cop, angry and clutching one of the plastic Pirate "swords".
Obvious case of inventing a pretense for a police riot.

Of course, the media parrots the claims of the police. Even once the false pretense is exposed, the psychological falsehood has been embedded in the mind's of readers.
Dear Boston Pigs...

You pigs are so fucking stupid. Ever hear of water? It's a necessity on hot days, and it's most often carried in.....PLASTIC BOTTLES! You should let those you unlawfully arrested go with a big apology.

Interesting--the Herald said that it was paper mache too. They're the Herald, of course, but the idea that the cops could call a paper mache prop a "fake molotov cocktail" is pretty crazy.

But the author says it was a plastic bottle. What's the source for that?

how the hell would a cardboard or paper mache molotov work, anyway? that cop is probably the stupidest person i've seen on tv in weeks, which is saying a lot.
I HAVE THE ANSWER TO THIS MYSTERY
30 Jul 2004
it was a fucking pirate hook. from the pirate parade. it just wasn't curvy enough. it was a plastic bottle with newspaper on it and something stuck through it to resemble a hook. unfortunately it looked more like a fuse, which i pointed out the night before; unfortunately no one listened. crazy kids
oh and also

it was not a pirate "bloc" it was supposed to be a pirate PARTY with singing and pirate jokes but i guess some people can't deal with anything more creative than wearing a mask and yelling angry stuff. and too bad they couldn't fucking deal with sticking with what we consensed in spokes.
Pirate Party (slightly off topic)
07 Aug 2004
It was still a party. We sang a bit. It went jolly well. We kind of all scattered once we joined the main march wich made songs dificult and what not, but I know the people around me were singing. It did get a bit stressfull after the effegy.
