Direct Action in Palestine (& In Boston?)
23 May 2001
for Boston Coalition for Palestinian Rights + Direct Action Center + Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice. This week the world began to understand that Arafat is not Mandela, Sharon is no dove, and Bush well... he's on our side. He's adversizing direct action to Yale grads , pfff, please. Boston's setting an example abroad in solidarity.

Direct Action for Palestine around the globe
23 May 2001
Perhaps such an effort could be coordinated with a campaign to blockade and lockdown every Israeli consulate and embassy around the world on a specific day or week...or a series of such actions. In the US this might include the Israeli Mission to the UN, the Israeli embassy in DC, consulates and trade missions in Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, LA, Seattle ect.

Something for those of us who support direct action to support the Palestinians, but who are unable to travel to occupied Palestine to participate. Think of it as a series of coordinated actions to insure "no buisness as usual" for Sharon and co. on the international front. Activists within the anto-globalization movement certainly have the skills, experince and committment to undertake such a project.

That combined with direct action tactics aimed at the arms manufacturers who provide Israel with the F-16s, Apache attack helicopters, M-16 rifles, and tear gas could make a difference.

Incidentally, the largest manufacturer of tear gas used in the Occupied territories is Federal Laboratories of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania...the same company that supplied the SQ and RCMP in Quebec. A smiliar campaign to halt the shipment of Federal Laboratories tear gas to Israel for use in the WB and Gaza occurred during the last Intifada, was launched by the Palestine Solidarity Committee and other
organizations, including local Middle East peace groups in the Boston area.
