OK, a few actual verifiable facts:

The DNS record is still there. Previous experience with sites that actually were knocked out by the law is that the DNS usually disappears.

The site is responding to pings. Hence, the server hasn't been confiscated or otherwise physically taken out.

A GET directed to the IP brings back a page with a 403 error and a contact email within the domain.

This page refers to an URL which turns out have the same IP as the SF site. The WHOIS for that domain cites a tech and administrative contact email in which the username is identical to the username in the contact email on the 403 page referred to above.

I've found messages in the mailing list archives referring to an outage at the SF site in 2003 which show that the same person in the WHOIS I just referred to is in fact involved in the tech side of the SF site.

All of this tends to indicate that there isn't anything nefarious going on from the networking end of things.

It should also be noted that despite the rancorous split-up of the SF IMC some time ago, the folks at doubtless have acquaintances in common with the folks at sf.indymedia, even though they might not talk much with each other anymore. The people at indybay would be in a very good position to know if any law enforcement action had been undertaken against sf.indymedia.

Posts on indybay indulging in the same sort of speculation we see in this article have been repeatedly shoveled onto the hidden page. If any of the tales of searches and raids were true, it's unlikely that this would happen.

The people claiming that the staff has been jailed are concealed behind unverifiable screen names.

The ultimate check would be to call the phone number I found in the course of gathering this information and ask the tech guy about it.

That's a last resort though. I'm inclined to think that there's enough evidence to draw a tentative conclusion that this article is just an exercise in FUD-spreading which is taking advantage of a coincidental tech issue.
BWAHAHAHA. Guess who's next?

They were warned too. You cant just allow just ANYTHING to be published on the internet. There ARE rules to follow. Perhaps the act of publishing is not illegal, but the consequences of doing so is at your own risk. You were warned here, and SF Indy was warned about August 4th. When they come back online (and they will in about three days), I suggest you ask them what happened. This Boston IMC outlet has become arrogant and complacent. you think you are immune? WAIT AND SEE
Do not worry

SF went down because a few of us decided to check out some things we found on boston imc

-All are encouraged to help out this campaign in any way they can. Deface websites, flood email servers, cause financial disruption, change electronic billboards. Turn the system over and put the people on top. Hacktivists of the world, unite!-

Looks like the boston people posted good shit.
