Women’s march fires up Boston
14 Jun 2001
Modified: 19 Jun 2001
Again, should have been posted a week ago but the photos never came through.
After gathering at Copley square, about 800 women and others marched to Boston Commons in support of feminist, lesbian, and human rights Friday evening. Led by a group of large puppets the group made their message clear with signs, stickers, flyers and their presence, proclaiming love for their bodies and whatever partners they choose. At the Commons a variety of speakers illuminated significant issues and complimented the crowd on their courage and beauty, while reflecting the proud and festive mood. Everyone roared their agreement when Hannah Blank summed up the moment, saying that those present were “confronting phobia with the day to day dignity of our lives.”
