Take Action Against Anti-union Policies At Wild Oats
18 Oct 2004
The Ohio Valley I.W.W. calls a picket of Wild Oats Markets

Wild Oats, the progressive natural foods store celebrates October as Fair Trade Coffee and Banana month. But, the reality is that Wild Oats is pathologically anti – union toward its own employees.

Wild Oats would rather close a store, fire a union delegate, and break Labor Board orders to cease and desist from interrogating and intimidating union supporters, than respect workers organizations in their own stores.

It’s not a coincidence that Wild Oats can support Fair Trade far away in a distant country and not honor those same conditions in their own backyard.

The Ohio Valley I.W.W. invites you to join us for the:

Wild Oats - Fair Banana - Fair Coffee - Unfair Labor Practices

Picket for Workers Rights

Saturday - October 23rd - 12noon - 3pm

Assemble @ RookWood Commons Mall

on the corner of Edwards Rd. and Madison Ave.

Contact the Ohio Valley IWW @ 513 899 9927 or cincyiww (at)

3 things you can do to help:

1) Call 1-800-494-WILD and demand the re-instatement of Tom Kappas - an end to arbitrary policies - and to end union harrasement at the Cincinnati Wild Oats store and abroad

2) go to the Ohio Valley IWW website and sign the petition

3) plan an informational picket in your hometown or attend the picket the 23rd in Cincinnati

thanks for your support,

the OutReach Committee

UNIONS: Bad for our economy, bad for business, bad for the 21st century
18 Oct 2004
Unions, through the voting bloc of their membership, have extorted union workplace rules out of governments. As the membership of unions in corporations has decreased, it has increased in local governments. Yes, your taxes to go support unions whose purpose is to benefit a small class of workers, and the hell with everybody else.

If I was a business owner, I would immediately fire anyone even WHISPERING the "U" word. Unions spell the death of profit and productivity. They wring out the owner's motivation to encourage growth of the company. From the worker's standpoint, the union may seem like a good thing, but it is not. Grocery baggers should NOT be paid much more than minimum wage, let alone get premium health benefits. School bus drivers getting $40/hour? That's more than what a self-employed taxi driver makes!

"Unions spell the death of profit"

If only! Eh, all the same they represent different interests than the bosses. So, unions are at least a positive step in the direction of the death of profit...
Shouldn't you be working, rather than sucking down your employer's profit?

Who do you work for - a charity for rightwing trolls?
Workers are out of touch with economics.

Unions are actually like miniature politburos, imposing a socialist manifesto to the companies they infect. Instead of a symbiosis, there is only a parasitic relationship between the union and the company/corporation.

You come up with an idea, start a business, sell a product or service, and here comes the "union", strong arming you into giving up YOUR reward to those who work for you (at agreed upon wages and benefits). If they think the conditions are not great, or if the pay or benefits arent what you want, then GO LOOK FOR WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE. Dont try to gang up using a union to get things done. Better yet, start your own business and see how great the unions are from that perspective.

The time for labor unions has passed. A relic from the 20th century, ready to be laquered and put up for display in the Museum of Quaint Americana.
No, since I am part owner and am a boss myself.

I am a partner in the business where I work. I can do as I please, and I dont answer to anyone. That's another thing I like about being a Right winger. My values are REAL and tangible, as are my rewards. I dont depend on the Winds of Whim to determine if I can do well or not. I bothered to get an education and to invest wisely. The Left is rife with the uneducated, the disenfranchised, and the whining "gimme gimme" attitude of children wanting more candy. GET A JOB.

Far be it from me to piss on the flames of a good flame war, but I really gotta take a leak. I believe trade unions are a good thing -- when the mafia, the corporate shills and the communists have been voted or dragged out of them.

A parasitic relationship exists in all employer-employee relationships. That is no reason to become a work anarchist. Being anti-union to the utmost extreme is nothing more than work-anarchism. Unions are usually formed by the crews that are already working and increasing productivity at a job, but are not receiving their fair share of the productivity increases. This is usually because the top end is being subsidized by the state in a form of corporate welfare. I think union members should be commended for both doing their jobs and also organizing to defend their interests.

If your business is large enough to inspire a union, then most likely it is gouging its employees. But clearly owning or being on a board of directors of a business beats being in a union any day. One should develop one's own power. Group based power is inherently unstable and weak.

Again I cannot stress enough how important it is to evict or beat up the union members who are lazy shiftless communists who use their alleged seniority to skew the merit system.

Fear not that Unions will run away with the American pie. As was proven by the fall of the Soviet Union, most unions pull in opposite directions and cannot all agree on how to rip of f the country at large. If they do, the country rapidly collapses and the swidlers are jailed. Look at Yukos.
Eat drink and be merry.

Eat, drink and be merry.
Wink, wink.

Ahhhhhh, "Ideal." That's true. Ideally business is a formal transformation series where investment and planning are converted into wealth. I wish we all lived on paper.
