We Interrupt This Empire // Dec 22
20 Dec 2004
Modified: 06:43:36 PM
Part of the Lucy Parsons Center radical film series.
Free Screening of 'We Interrupt This Empire'
Wed, December 22, 7pm

The San Francisco Video Activist Network presents the story you won't see on Fox News: an unflinching look at the Bay Area's radical resistance to an illegal and horrific war.
We Interrupt This Empire is a collaborative work by many of the Bay Area's independent video activists which documents the direct actions that shut down the financial district of San Francisco in the weeks following the United States' invasion of Iraq. With the audio backdrop including the live broadcasts of SF Indymedia's Enemy Combatant Radio and the SFPD's tactical communications that were picked up by police scanners, the documentary takes a look at the diverse show of resistance from the streets of San Francisco as well as providing a critique of the coporate media coverage of the war and exploring such issues as the Military Industrial Complex, attacks on civil liberties, and the United States' current imperialist drive.

Volunteering at LPC isn't just about donating your labor. All of the Lucy Parsons Center volunteers contribute to all aspects of running the store and can take part in all decisions in how it's run. If you know anything about grant writing, web design, or any other skills you think would be useful, or if you just want to be part of this great radical project, please email Pete at petestid (at)

+++ Use our space for radical stuff

One of the most important aspects of the Lucy Parsons Center is providing a community meeting place for radical activities. If you want to host an event, please send an email to Rebecca at rebeccabatchelder (at) Make sure to give enough notice so that we can approve the event at our bimonthly meetings.

If you have a group that needs a space to have regular meetings, just come to the bookstore and fill out a space request form. Again, make sure to allow time for approval by the collective.

+++ Donate MONEY!

We need support to help ensure the Lucy Parsons Center continues to grow and be an important resource for the community. Donations can be made in the form of cash, check or credit cards. Please call the store for more info. If you don't have a lot, don't worry, even donating the change of your purchase can make a difference.

excellent! i am so syked! a few of us are planning on being there wednesday, and i encourage you all to come. for all of boston's talk of diversity of tactics, heres a real look at a less practiced tactic (at least here) that worked excellently.

the movie was awesome, lotso people came. the movie talked a little too much about why the war was bad and not enough about how the city was shut down, but we did learn about bike rides on the highway, using burning hay and newspaper boxes to block the street, about slashing tires, civil disobedience, invading buildings, pieing the media, ducktaping intersections shut, and many other tactics.
bring the war fucking home !

Well, we show films every wednesday night at 7pm. So that is always ongoing.

As far as showing 'We Interrupt This Empire' again, there is talk about putting together a skillshare about the San Francisco actions that day by someone who was involved in the organizing. If we do, then we'll show the film again (at least parts).

We don't have any extra copies to sell. But you can order them directly from the folks who made it, granted it is a bit pricy but i don't know where else it is available:
