METRO-LEC Inc. was the "police" force that occupied the Northeastern University area last night. Who the hell are they??? They have their own military special opeartions style uniforms and riot gear, along with a pretty sophisticated communications van. Ive never heard of Metro-LEC Inc whch stands for Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council Incorporated. They set up camp on Northeastern's campus around 4:00pm. They paraded around the streets with their k-9 units and paddy wagons to intimidate everyone. After the game they formed a line down Hemenway St, and had officers walking around with K-9s. Does anyone know who METRO-LEC is?? Here are a few pics of their command center and the scene after the game.

From the Boston Globe, prior to the DNC:

The Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council also received $1.5 million in federal grants for the convention to purchase new weapons, hard plastic riot gear known as "turtle suits," and a $600,000 communications vehicle, which will serve as the communications hub for council officers.

the council is a group of dozens of towns' sheriff and police depts, who share resources for homeland security. looks like they were sporting their gear left over from the dnc

Metro LEC is basically the result of state centralization under homeland security. We saw the rise of the BPD Special-Ops Strike Force (commonly called the "black-on-blacks") four years ago. This is the paramilitarized wing of the BPD. Metro LEC expanded the Strike Force across jurisdictional lines. The trend of getting worse. We've seen the lines between civilian police and military blurred in recent years. Metro LEC opperates as a paramilitary unit, MPs were used in the civilian sector during the DNC... I suppose its only a matter of time until Blackwater scum are patrolling our city.

Please refraim from using racist terms like "Paddy" ( derogatory name for Irish Americans) in your posts.

why do a few flipped cars require militaryy intervention?? Isnt the death count 1 by a drunken accident and 1 by police brutaity? Which shoul we be more afraid of?
I'm Irish and I endorse using the word "Paddy".

Look at it this way, calling a police van designed to haul away the diobedient after the Irish is a badge of honor. I'm Irish and I openly admit to being disobedient.

The origin of the term "Paddy Wagon" stems not only from the NYC police wagons being filled with predominantly Irish disobedients in the late 1880s/early 1900s but also from the fact that most of the cops operating the wagons and rounding up the disobedients were usually Irish as well.
