Emerson Student Strike
12 Apr 2005
Modified: 12:22:48 AM
Currently, Emerson college is the scene of a labor dispute between the full-time faculty and their union, and the administration (who, after decades, wants to break the union). After years of attempts at negotiation, and a final plea for the administration to either recognize the union or enter binding arbitration, the administration will still not budge.
On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the students of Emerson, in support of our teachers, will boycott all classes.
As the administration refuses to listen to our teachers needs and to all of our voices, we will appeal to its wallet. This is the week when perspective students come to visit Emerson.
In addition to the boycott, there will be a rally in the Boston commons on each day, Wednesday starting at 1 and and thursday at 2.
Please come and stand in solidarity with the teachers of Emerson and the students participating in the boycott. Bring arts, instruments, drums, and ideas.

Sonny Corleone Says, "Did you go to college to get stupid?"
12 Apr 2005
I am reminded of the line from the Godfather where Sonny Corleone says to Michael Corleone "what did you go to college for? To get stupid?" You Emerson students are apparently wasting mommy and daddy's hard earned money to get stupid. Perhaps you were stupid to begin with but skipping class for a day on the common is no way to remedy the situation. The sad part is that your parents actually believe that they are ding a good thing by sending you to college. Oh, by the way - if you are one of the unlucky one who is paying tuition through a government loan program, then you are spending MY hard earned money and I don't appreciate it. We need to impose a payback system so that students who waste taxpayer money by engaging in stupid protest activity have to pay a percentage back for each hour that they are not studying. You students are living a life of fantasy. My advice is to get a job.

i say keep rocking and remember that there are many of us like myself who can't be there but fully support you. is there some email address (like the head of school's) that we can write to and voice our support for you if we can't be there physically?
