They have to admit it now: Gulf Stream slowing - Sunday Times, May 8, 2005- Britain faces big chill as ocean current slows

CLIMATE change researchers have detected the first signs of a slowdown in the Gulf Stream, the mighty ocean current that keeps Britain and Europe from freezing.

They have found that one of the engines driving the Gulf Stream the sinking of supercooled water in the Greenland Sea, has weakened to less than a quarter of its former strength.

The weakening, apparently caused by global warming, could herald big changes in the current over the next few years or decades. Paradoxically, it could lead to Britain and northwestern and Europe undergoing a sharp drop in temperatures.

London's winters have already shown some cooling. If you remember, the winter of '03-'04 saw the first snowstorm in hundreds of years.

But that's not all that will happen when the Atlantic Conveyor shuts down.

You know, it might just be time to put the global warming issue right up there with the War in Iraq as the major issues of the day.

Being from Vermont, I support Global Warming. I endeavor to do my part to hasten the warming effect. Spend just one winter in this frozen mountain paradise and you will support Golbal Warming as well.
Outstanding !!!

That actually sounds good. I agree with Jim. I for one, wouldn't mind hanging out on the Beach in November or December.
global warming/ regional cooling

Don't you idiots get it at all? The point of the article is that global warming doesn't mean more warm days at the beach; it means higher average temperatures worldwide, which could result in much colder temperatures in certain regions (like the northeastern US) as a result of changes in ocean currents which presently keep us relatively warm.

Ok, let's de-construct this GLOBAL WARMING.
GLOBAL = As or of the planet - the entire earth.
WARMING = To rise in temperature.
The Result? The Entire Earth's Temperature rising. I'm getting out my suntan lotion. The even better thing is that the ice caps will melt and the ocean will be higher. WOO HOOO Surf's Up!!!
