Why does Boston IMC censor a news web blog?

[Editors note: because our readers prefer to see stories on our site rather than links. We are not censoring you but we are requesting that you post full stories rather than straight advertising for your blog.]
(BTW, use for any article that requires registration.)

Remember: Blogging is an effective means of conveying a collection of information. For Indymedia editors to be censoring this blog suggests very strongly that their true agenda is actually to limit the distribution of critical news of benefit to the public. Remember the Trojan Horse?

********911: NEWS MEDIA HOAX********

"We Went to War over Cartoons (the Webfairy)"

"What do you think would happen if the world became aware that there were no hijacked planes that day, that two of the flights didn't exist, that the towers were attacked with secret technology, that the horrifying image which people saw on TV was just a movie, and that media also faked lists of passengers on the non existent flight which didn't hit the North tower, that a missile of some sort was fired into the pentagon and that fake videos and fake eyewitness reports were concocted to try to sell the story? (Gerard Holmgren)"

What really hit the South Tower of the WTC?

UK director to make 9/11 hijack film:

(will the "planes" that strike the WTC look more real in this movie than in the movies we saw on 9/11/01?)

****CENSORSHIP: (sic)****

More censorship at Indymedia. This time Boston IMC decides this blog is "advertising" and thus hide it from their audience:

"Please post articles and then link to our site, instead of just links."

(blogging is grounds for censorship at Boston IMC, which touts itself as "independent media".)

meanwhile, this blog is being censored at Portland IMC:

Ailine bankruptcies deepen US pension crisis, says the GOP-controlled Congress:

Court upholds power of White House to jail citizens as "enemy combatants":

"...The sole basis for Padilla’s imprisonment is President Bush’s June 9, 2002 proclamation that he 'is, and at the time he entered the United States in May 2002 was, an enemy combatant.' No attempt has ever been made to actually prove this charge, and the category 'enemy combatant' itself is without precedent in domestic and international law..."

Patriot Act can be used in laser beam case, judge rules:

John Roberts' role in the Guantanamo Bay hunger strike:

"...The prisoners are demanding that they be given the opportunity to challenge the terms of their detention in a court of law, a principle that Roberts does not support. He ruled in [Rumsfeld v. Hamdan] that the President was not constrained by international law and that 'the Geneva Conventions do not create judicially enforceable rights...'”

********NEW ORLEANS********

State Department website informs US public that "conspiracy theories" are not to be trusted:

The New York Times and Bush's New Orleans speech

from MSNBC's Brian Williams's blog:

"It is impossible to over-emphasize the extent to which this area is under government occupation, and portions of it under government-enforced lockdown. Police cars rule the streets. They (along with Humvees, ambulances, fire apparatus, FEMA trucks and all official-looking SUVs) are generally not stopped at checkpoints and roadblocks. All other vehicles are subject to long lines and snap judgments and must PROVE they have vital business inside the vast roped-off regions here. If we did not have the services of an off-duty law enforcement officer, we could not do our jobs in the course of a work day and get back in time to put together the broadcast and get on the air. As we are about to do.

New York Times drops hints that the levees were dynamited:

Fox TV airs program called "Oil Storm" which depicts, in documentary-style, the catastrophic destruction of New Orleans via runaway hurricane. In the film gas prices rise sharply and an economic upheaval takes place.

"...The premises of the television-movie were as follows:

1. A super hurricane strikes New Orleans and the Gulf oil installations.
2. Disorder erupts and martial law is declared. The area is evacuated.
3. Oil supply is disrupted catastrophically and prices rise astronomically
4. Economic chaos and depression result

How prescient – indeed clairvoyant – this major television event turned out to be.
And so close to the actual events themselves...(Lynn)"

censorship versus editorializing
17 Sep 2005
"[Editors note: because our readers prefer to see stories on our site rather than links."

first of all, how do you know? second, what gives Boston IMC the right to hide information from its audience? Just because Boston IMC "prefers" a different style of communicating doesn't mean that Boston IMC can censor that information while still fufilling its stated objectives.

Lastly, if complete articles are required they will quickly disappear in the Newswire. Whether your readers "prefer" it or not, posting links is still the best way to communicate a collection of information.
Re: News Junkie Scott's Blog (9/17/05)

This is something we can discuss further but a while ago the website group consensed on the idea that we prefer to have full, informative, original, and truthful articles on our website. We did this because we assume that is what the reader is looking for based on our common sense and teh people we know that use it and the comments we often see onthe site.

What gives us a right is that we are the volunteers that keep Boston IMC running, who try to keep the big picture in mind and give everyone the opportunity to open post. All of our decisions are based on balancing the ideas of providing an open publishing space and also creating a useful news source that will attract news readers.

Links, in our humble opinion, are simply ways to draw people away from our resource. Your links lead to articles, so there is no harm in asking you to post articles instead of links.

This is not censorship at all but rather trying to create a useful resource. You are of course totally welcome to post all of your links after a full original article. It might even work better for you as away to get people interested in your writing.
the answer is nonsensical

"What gives us a right is that we are the volunteers that keep Boston IMC running, who try to keep the big picture in mind and give everyone the opportunity to open post."

So, how is everyone's "big picture" jeopardized with a news blog with links? Since you argue that your audience "prefers" not to utilize the news blog you contradict yourself by claiming that your other publishers are somehow hindered.

You're posting a lot of words to say that you want to stifle the flow of information on Boston IMC. You might be a hard-working "volunteer" there, but you can still be guilty of violating the spirit of independent media (your stated objective) when practicing censorship.

The only justification you offer for this censoship is some unspecified, undated consensus. Stalin would have agreed with your tactics.
