Boston area activists sought to join the Palestinian Olive Harvest in November!
Join Boston-area activists at the Palestinian Olive Harvest this November!

Palestinian farmers and agricultural organizations, supported by international solidarity groups, have announced the 2005 Olive Harvest Campaign. The indigenous population has farmed the land of Palestine for hundreds of generations. The annual olive harvest is a symbol of life for Palestinian communities, an affirmation of their historical, economic and spiritual connection to the land -- and a rejection of Israeli efforts to seize that land.

Volunteers are being called from around the globe to stay in Palestinian homes in West Bank communities and accompany Palestinians to their olive groves to help with the harvest. In the past, the presence of internationals during harvest time has helped decrease instances of settler and soldier harassment of Palestinian farmers and their families -- and has lessened the severity of attacks when they do occur. Internationals serve as witnesses, documenting and exposing the conditions under which Palestinians struggle to survive and maintain their culture.

In addition to olive harvest, volunteers will likely have the opportunity to join Palestinians in nonviolent protests throughout the West Bank against the construction of settlements, settlement roads, and the Annexation Barrier.

A Boston-based activist group is hoping to send a delegation to Palestine to participate, for 2 to 3 weeks, in this season?s olive harvest, with an approximate timeframe of November 5th - 25th.

We are seeking qualified participants from the New England area who have worked on social justice and anti-oppression struggles and preferably have some awareness of the Palestinian plight. People who are often under-represented in this kind of work, including poor and working class people and people of color, are encouraged to apply.

*Fundraising: Participants will be expected to help fund a major part of their trip prior to departure and to help raise money, after returning, for the future trips of others. (Fundraising support will be offered and limited grants will be awarded. Total costs -- including airfare, room and board, and transportation -- are expected to be about $1,600 per person.)

*Standards of Conduct: Delegates must agree to respect the cultural norms of the areas visited, to be sensitive to group dynamics, to use consensus-based decision making, and to be nonviolent at all times.

*Meetings: Attendance at gatherings with other delegates and with your support group is mandatory. Meetings will be in the Boston area prior to the trip (details forthcoming).

*Training: Successful completion of a training in the Boston area (tentative date: October 22nd) is required. Also, a mandatory two-day training session must be attended once in Palestine.

*Movement-building: Participants will gain first-hand experience with life under occupation. Applicants must make clear how they intend, upon return, to use their Palestine experience to inform and activate their own communities. In some form, participants will be expected to contribute to anti-occupation, human rights and justice work for Palestine/Israel. We also hope that this trip will broaden delegates? perspectives on their other social justice work.

Visit Palestine before is is destroyed compleatly. Kind of like the tourists going to rain forests before the people with connections destroy them compleatly.

So what happened. Zionists filled out a form to accces the support of a bloodsoaked war of conquest? Shit, where can I find such a form that would give me and my family and friends a birthright of murderous theft of some third world people's homeland??? Wow, it sure sounds stupid when I say it, doesn't it??? Why the fuck doesn't it sound stupid when Zionists try to solicite YOUR support for thier bloodsoaked war of conquest??? Needless to say, I don't expect an actual answer.

last night i attended a talk in somerville by cindy corrie, mother of an american social justice worker, rachel corrie, who was killed by israel while acting as a human shield in palestine in 2003. her courage, and the uniquely sheltered american perspective that she brought to palestine, really demonstrates how very sick the israel/palestinian conflict is. the saddest thing is that the palestines, while not a minority faith in the middle east, are a minority in israel and are being discriminated against as such. they are systematically having their human rights violated by the israel military and government. there are people, human beings who truly know how to love and share, on both sides of the conflict - it's the people in power who are propogating this "war" and occupation, and perpetuating violence in israel, palestine, through the middle east, and even inspiring terrorism against those countries who are israel's greatest supporters, like the US. when the world trade center was attacked on 9-11, israel was the first to side with the US in denouncing "terrorists" and using the arab threat as a reason to increase and step up their campaign of violence against the palestinian people. likewise, the US has used israel's example to justify similar acts against "terrorists", while systematically destroying or ignoring human rights mandates and resolutions at home and abroad.

look at the IRA in northern ireland. after YEARS of conflict, mostly by the English against the Irish, a major disarmament has occured.... and the irish in northern ireland are still living in an oppressive and openly racist society, with corrupt police, military, public officials, and human rights violaitons. and they're in a so-called "1st world" country!

as always, people should be wary of the political agendas of any government or political organization. also, we should be true to our hearts and the basic humanity that we all hope to share. this trip sounds like a beautiful way to celibrate the continued attempts of the palestinian people to continue a way of life that is being systematically destroyed by israel, it also sounds like project where people from outside of the conflict can see it from an insider perspective, and can see it for what it really is - political and corporate greed and profit from the destruction of innocent peoples lives.
