News :: Organizing
Youth Bloc Against War, Oct. 29
20 Oct 2005
The Radical Youth Alliance is organizing for a youth bloc as part of the regularly planned antiwar protest on October 29th at 11 am at Boston Common. All students and youth are encouraged to participate in organizing and to be in the bloc.
YOUTH BLOC AGAINST WAR!
march starts at 11 am on the Boston Common

On October 29, 2005, as part of a larger demonstration against the war, youth and students from throughout the Boston area will come together to form a youth bloc against war. This will give us a forum to connect with likeminded youth and to march together. We have no say in this war or any wars, but we are recruited to fight and die in them. We will no longer go quietly as our friends, family, and classmates are sent to die for the profit of the elite or the politicians. Money is being drained from our schools and our communities for the Pentagon. Enough already!
We are the youth, we are the future, and we will resist their wars!

Bring your voices, instruments, banners, and friends!
called by the Radical Youth Alliance

To get involved in organizing for the youth bloc in your community, email

dear stokely, thank you very much for your support and solidarity, but this is going to be a youth bloc- there is going to be a regular march which you are welcome to take part in, but the youth bloc is supposed to be youth and students only, because we are trying to show that we can organize on our own.

So, tell us, what time are mom and dad going to drop you off? Hopefully you can fit all your banners and signs in the SUV. And remember, even though little hands make great sneakers, don't wear your Nikes on )-29, it wouldn't be very pc.

What' the matter, cop? Did your daddy beat you when you were a little boy?

Honestly my dad never really beat me. He was to busy anally raping, well it was really rape because she was willing, your mom. The only thing that used to get him upset about it was waiting in line.

There are now contacts at Harvard, Northeastern, Simmons, and a few other schools. NU Campus Against War and Racism
is going to take part in the bloc, and so are the Emerson Antiauthoritarians and Socialist Alternative. Project Hip Hop is spreading the word and a few people from their organization will be coming too.
what?

so what is this point of this, since there are obviously going to be a lot of young people at this protest anyway? you're not calling people to coalesce around any particular message or tactics. if you want to callfor an anarchist bloc go ahead and do it (maybe with advice from more experienced companer@s...) and dont make it age-specific.

dude they are in high school, they are going to clique.
Re: Youth Bloc Against War, Oct. 29

There's nothign wrong with a Youth Bloc! It's a way to support each other, and be visible as young people, and have fun. Developing collective identity and a sense of collective strength is one of the most important parts of organizing, and that needn't be based around an ideology (like your suggestion of an anarchist bloc).

Of course they should get support and advice from those with more experience, but having age-specific space can be important too.
Re: Youth Bloc Against War, Oct. 29

It also has to do with the fact that youth are the people fighting this war, it works in the same way that groups of mothers or groups of veterans work.

and also, you're wrong, specifically organizing a place for youth like this will make youth feel more welcome in coming, because they know that they have friends and allies to be with.
and you're also wrong, there will be more youth there because of this- this event was organized (as usual) by the oldtimers who have almost no connection to youth. we're showing our independent dedication to anti-militarism. and in addition, the fact that the Radical Youth Alliance is not connected to one ideology allows more people to get involved- note the Emerson Antiauthoritarians and Socialist Alternative.

since when is socialist alternative a youth organization? isn't it run by "old people"? and at what age do students stop counting as youth? a lot of grad students are well on their way to 30--not exactly high school age...
Re: Youth Bloc Against War, Oct. 29

dear "huh?"

Socialist Alternative is actively mobilizing young people at UMass-Boston, Tufts, and Harvard, as well as trying to help organize high school students for October 29th and student walkouts on November 2nd. We are mainly led by young people - students and workers, who are sick and tired of how screwed up things and are putting tons of time into fighting to end this war and struggling to rebuild the socialist movement. What are you doing to mobilize for October 29th besides knocking us? Hope to see you and a bunch of young people who you've mobilized on the 29th. This should be a great demonstration.

"but the youth bloc is supposed to be youth and students only, because we are trying to show that we can organize on our own. "

not knocking anyone, other than to point out a slight discrepancy in the way this is being billed. in any case how are "youth" supposed to know who the Radical Youth Alliance is? When I went to their website their was an ad for mortgages that popped up and nothing on the site except a link to someone's email. a few hundred years ago some charlatan started a Children's Crusade to free the holy land, and most of this kids ended up enslaved...
Re: Youth Bloc Against War, Oct. 29

look, the people from socialist alternative who are going to be involved are college and high school age students. just like all other adults, adults in socialist alternative are not invited to be in the bloc. and how do youth know who the RYA is? because it's a fucking youth organization- we are the group. in case you cant read it above, there are people organizing in dozens of places, namely high schools.

Silly people! It's great to see that the youth of America can stand united against something but I'm sure that some of the clowns on here will twist and turn it into a negative fiasco.

Don't forget to continue to support our troops! The schools across the United States will be remembering our Veterans in the next few weeks. Especially, the brave men and women serving overseas. God Bless America!

Oh yeah! Not here to disrupt anything. Just because my views, which is backed with real world experience, differs from what most of the misguided spout off about here does not make me disruptive. There seems to be plenty of disruption already here!
Have a good day.
