that's not really ethical
12 Dec 2001
I don't think it's really ethical to join a pro-war group and begin making anti-war postings to it. How would we like it if some one began making pro-war postings to an pro-peace list we had? We'd howl with outrage. Well, it works both ways.

Besides, do you really think it would be effective? By making unwanted postings to their list, most likely you'll just tick them off and make them less likely to listen to any pro-peace arguments they might encounter in other contexts in the future. The key to successful communication is respect for the people you are trying to communicate with--and posting completely inappropriate messages to their list is not respectful.

I think it's a really good idea to post, that's what it's all about. I think it's vital not to propagandize, of course. But ithought i should put in some time and offer up solid critiqueing of pro-war arguments. My father got some crazy fundamentalist EndTimes magazine and I'm thinking to write their letter an editor, namely addressing their stance on the Occupation of Palestine. Really, how can they claim a christianity derived from a 'literal translation' of the bible and then ignore christ's beatitudes? (turning the other cheek, what you do to the least of your brothers you do to me, etc.) I think it's important just to keep it civil- if they censor it, boy, would that reveal hypocrisy or what?
