That's fucked up.
27 Jan 2006
Even the Boston IMC website is fucking 'centric!
I just want to say that it's totally fucked up that the Boston IMC website lists the fucking United States FIRST, for no reason, out of alphabetical order, in its list of "Media Centers".

That's totally fucked.

I'm an alphabetist, and if IndyBoston doesn't correct this error, I'll blow myself up.

If Boston started with an "A", it could be the first state in the Union!

What about the idea that BIMC is located in the US and most of the posts are by people in the US? In fact, BIMC aims to have the majority of stories be about Boston. Few people will actually contribute stories about Boston who aren't here.
So, it makes perfect sense to facilitate the majority of users on the site by listing their country first. Why not list Argentinia first? Because not very many people will be posting from that locale, and if they do they can always just find the proper choice. Its not very difficult. What good is your ideology if just makes everything backward and inefficient? Let's forget alphabetical order altogether. We could list the countries according to percieved poverty. People from countries where only 1 in 1000 have internet access could be at the top. The rich would have to scroll to the bottom. That'll show 'em.
Or, we could use the London School of economics "Happiness Index," and then list them in reverse. Last I heard Bangladesh was the happiest country in the world. They could go at the bottom. In this way IMC could show sympathy for the over stressed and depressed.
Of what value is being in complete denial about the nationality of most of the users? Who is harmed through facilitating them by placing their country at the top of some list that has little or no bearing on anything? Are you just some sort of ideolouge or what?
Why isn't there a New England section?

We're New Englanders, not United States'ers.

" no, boston IMC was the second... seattle was the first."

If that's true, why doesn't Seattle start with an "A"?
