Infoshop Update on Anti-War Protests

by Infoshop.org

Tens of thousands and hundreds of local groups to protest locally against the third anniversary of the current phase of the U.S.-Iraq war

Media Release
March 17, 2006

Press contact:
Chuck Munson – chuck (at) mutualaid.org

Thousands of people around the world will protest this weekend against the continuing occupation of Iraq, the ongoing American aggression against other countries, repression of activists and people in the U.S., and much more. This weekend marks the third anniversary of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, which is the latest phase in a war against the Iraqi people that goes back to 1991. This conflict has killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of Americans and people from other countries.

The War on Iraq and the so-called “War on Terror” are supported by most of the leaders in both major American political parties. These parties not only initiated and facilitated this war, but they have done little to heed the outpouring of opposition from around the world. They refuse to do anything in response to the overwhelming opposition by Americans to the war as well as opposition to the war from many within the military services.

Infoshop.org has a variety of resources on the peace and anti-war movements, as well as a list of protests being held this weekend and in coming months.

Infoshop News: http://news.infoshop.org

The predominance of local protests on this anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq mark a trend towards authentic grassroots activism and away from ineffective national spectacles organized by agenda-driven national organizations. Hundreds of local peace and anti-war groups have sprung up in cities and towns around America since the 2003 invasion. These groups are joining with the majority of Americans who have turned against the war and the war criminals in the two major parties who haven't lifted a finger to stop the war or bring the troops home.

Infoshop.org is a trusted source of news, information and resources for social change movements around the world. Hundreds of thousands use the website each month, making it one of the most popular progressive/radical news and information portals on the Internet. Infoshop has helped tens of thousands of people around the world organize campaigns, events and protests for a wide variety of causes.

Infoshop joins with millions around the world who are calling for an end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq, the removal of all U.S. troops, the closing of all U.S. bases around the world, and the abolition of the U.S. military-industrial complex.

Chuck Munson is the Abe Foxman of Anarchism
17 Mar 2006
Who is more rancid and disreputable? History will be the judge. But the working class has already tossed anarchism into history's dustbin. That depoliticized youth and petit-bourgeois dilettantes pick it out occasionally to roll it in a joint is of no importance whatsoever.

Isn't this sort of an advertisement for infoshop. I like the part about infoshop as a "trusted source of news, information and resources for social change movements.." trusted by whom? Resources for which movements? Helped which campaigns?
Chuck Munson doesn't deserve to been seen as independent or neutral.

He is given far too much access to IndyMedia to promote his blog. He has smeared far too many anarchists too be considered a valuable source of info.

God, how I love COINTELPRO and leftist sectarianism. Just throw out the trollbait without anything of substance to back up your charges. Sad.

One more thing. Infoshop is not "Chuck's blog." Infoshop is run by a collective and an international network of volunteers. Chuck is the most visible face of Infoshop, but it a collectively-run project.

Even with a couple of nobodies helping out...

It's still chuck's blog. He should get a life.
Interesting how the FBI considers IndyMedia a terrorist threat but does not mention InfoShop.

Think about it.

I'm hoping that I'm not feeding the trolls with this post. It's kind of weird that people would see fit to post responses to an announcement like ours above, but I guess that we are doing something important if we get this kind of reaction out of the trolls.

As the above poster pointed out, Infoshop.org is indeed a collectively run project. Our collective currently includes 7 people. We also rely on a network of volunteers to help us run the project. Infoshop is not my blog--it's actually a large website and news service. I do run a blog called "another blog is possible."

"Interesting how the FBI considers IndyMedia a terrorist threat but does not mention InfoShop."

Interesting bit of cop-baiting there. I'm not sure what exactly the troll is saying here, but the FBI does pay close attention to Infoshop. I was told that the recently disclosed FBI spying documents on anti-war protesters in Pittsburgh mentioned Infoshop. Last year, Infoshop got a "knock on the door" from the FBI. I know of at least one "threat advisory" that the FBI issued several years ago based on information posted to Infoshop. And we know that local authorities around the world monitor the website. The search warrant used by the police to raid the puppet warehouse during the 2000 protests in Philadelphia cited Infoshop as a source for information.

In other words, the cowardly troll is just posting bullshit.
Chuck, you have a history of naming people you disagree with "trolls".
19 Mar 2006
In fact, a recent article on Boston IMC pointed that out and was prompty removed.

No one is cop baiting you. The truth is that some of us think YOU ARE A TROLL and that YOU HAVE BEEN INVOLVED with malicious trolling on IMCs.

Why would an "anarchist" be proud of the fact that cops use his site to arrest activists? Why would anyone in the movement throw around the term "troll" to discredit anyone, then go on to address the questions? Is a collective of 7 actually a collective? Would Munson let others be involved in the "collective" that is Infoshop, or is an invite only club? What type of info comes from a tight group of ideologically rigid shop?

The comment that talked about Indymedia being visited by the FBI while Infoshop wasn't is an example of cop-baiting. Trolling? I participate on Indymedia websites, although in a more responsible fashion than half of the people who troll Indymedia websites. The problem is so bad that if you look above, you'll find a blue box with the Boston IMC's troll warning.

Another troll writes:
"Why would an "anarchist" be proud of the fact that cops use his site to arrest activists?"

Where did I say that I was "proud" of Infoshop being visited by the FBI? I merely presented some facts to correct some misinformation posted here. The cops use information from Indymedia, Infoshop and other websites to prepare actions against activists. What are we supposed to do? NOT post announcements about protests?

"Why would anyone in the movement throw around the term "troll" to discredit anyone, then go on to address the questions?"

Do you even understand what a troll is? A troll is somebody who posts comments anonymously to an Internet site to provoke angry discussions. In this thread, several people (or one person) who doesn't like me or my work (or perhaps my politics) has posted several troll comments.

I don't throw around the word "troll" lightly. I get into all kinds of discussions with people I disagree with and I don't call them trolls. But if you are going to post shit about me from behind an anonymous posting, I'm correct to call you a troll.

"Is a collective of 7 actually a collective?"

What the fuck? Would it make you happy if we had a collective of 65 people? Your comment is so stupid. Do you even know what a collective is? Do you want me to give you a Wikipedia URL?

"Would Munson let others be involved in the "collective" that is Infoshop, or is an invite only club? What type of info comes from a tight group of ideologically rigid shop?"

I'd like to know what you are smoking, because you are certainly blowing smoke rings out of your ass here. The Infoshop collective will decide who we let into our collective. Nobody has asked to join recently, but William recently suggested that we make an effort to add some new members. We have a process to add new members and would fully consider anybody who wants to become a full fledge member of the collective. We also have dozens of volunteers who help with the site on a daily basis. After I post this I have to go listen to an audio file that one of them sent me last night.

Ideologically rigid? That's really funny. Infoshop has information from a wide variety of activist and political groups.
My problem with Munson
19 Mar 2006
First of all, I was wrong about the article being deleted from Boston IMC, it was DC IMC.

My problem with Munson begins with his definition of a troll. Some of us have very good reasons for being anonymous. Being anonymous does not make us trolls. Also, some of us who are anonymous have things to say that do get people angry. That is not because we wish to get people angry or we are trying to provoke fruitless discussions. There are problems in this world and some people are part of those problems so if we get them angry, that is life.

Munson has posted around pathetic criticism of those who try to get others to take steps to protect themselves from government infiltration. Munson discourages such steps, states that the FBI is not interested in us unless were doing something wrong (which is bullshit), and calls those who use online techniques that he does not understand "trolls."

Munson has censored feminists. Munson acts like he is the gatekeeper of who should be considered an anarchist and who should not be.

Munson appears to be involved in some online harassmnet groups that have involved other "anarchists", specifically from Baltimore IMC where he has strong connections.

Munson has turned up on many IMC's to bash the same people bashed by known online stalkers.

Frankly, I do not trust him. I do not know what he is connected to, but he seems to be working against many of the same people the right-wing trolls are working against.

If you can't be bothered to put your real name behind your comments, then why should people believe you? Do you think that your are above accountability when you smear people such as myself?

As they say, don't believe everything you read on the Internet, especially the stuff written by anonymous cowards.
One day we will meet, Chuck, face to face.
20 Mar 2006
It will be a day you do not forget.

Chuck Munson some fat fucking 40 year old loser. A late model teenager. News Flash Chucko, you fat ass is free, but your development was arrested about 22 years ago.

"I do run a blog called 'another blog is possible.' "

Which sucks.
