Scaffolding collapse kills three in downtown Boston
03 Apr 2006
Scaffolding on a Emerson College dormitory under construction collapsed in downtown Boston this afternoon, killing three people, officials said.
The hydraulic scaffolding was attached to a building near the intersection of Boylston and Charles streets when it fell just after 1 p.m. Authorities said they had not identified the three people killed. Dozens of fire department, police, and emergency medical personnel were at the scene.

"We're stabilizing the scene," said Boston fire department spokesman Lt. David Pfeil. "We're trying to move some of the debris."

Witnesses said that the scaffolding, which stone workers were using to apply stone material to the building, flattened at least one car.

"It just came down flying from the front of the building and crushed a car," said Wayne Cote. "There was somebody in the car."

James White, 39, a technician from Dorchester, said he was driving to his next call on Boylston Street when the collapse happened. "All I heard was a crackling noise and then I saw the scaffolding fall off the building."

He said he got out of his car and was trying to help the people in the cars.

"People were telling me not to move the scaffolding," White said. "Both of the people that I seen, neither was talking. One of them had a lot more blood coming, and the other was unconscious."

The incident paralyzed traffic on a warm spring day in downtown, drawing hundreds of people to the scene of destruction, in which crane parts, brick, debris, and crushed cars were splayed in the roadway. The crane fell over near an Emerson College building, along a busy thoroughfare along the Boston Common.

that is messed up--sounds like the casualties were on the ground, not on the scaffold itself. . .

There must have been a tremendous response by the anarchists etc to assist in the saving of those poor people! Oh, i'm sorry it was the Pigs and their incestuous brethren the firefighters who responded. Well, maybe the anarchists can hold a march and rally in support of the people that were so forcefully extracted from their cars without the express permission of the occupants. The legal observers could jump in and be a general interference without adding anything to the equation.

Ignoring the trolls, this sounds really scary. In response to the first comment, the news is now saying that one person was killedin a car on the ground, and two construction workers were killed who presumably fell. 2 others went to the hospital with injuries that we're considered life-threatening.
Clarification
03 Apr 2006
Sorry--the 2 people who went to hospitals had injuries that were NOT considered life-threatening.

Fuck off buddy, I've never heard anything bad about firefighters from anarchists. Funny you have to flat out lie about their political position to make them look bad.

Legal observers have been a great help at demos.
You should have seen the Republicans thronging to help...
04 Apr 2006
On the scene, no Republicans offered a hand. One was seen photographing with intent to sell the pictures for profit.

Oops. I forgot to show emotion. I forgot to gush about how bad this thing was. And so my comment got hidden. Matt has the right idea. *I feel really bad about this scaffolding collapse, and I am outraged about the slanderous statements about anarchists and firemen* too.

Actually, the passer-by physician from Mass General who helped one of the wounded is a Republican.

Is there anyway we can blame Bu$h or Cheney for this/

If there isn't a way, we can make up a conspiract theory. All we need is three elements for a successful conspiracy theory 1.Republicans 2. Dick Cheney 3. Haliburton. OK, here goes:
The crane did not collapse by accident. It was deliberately blown up by 1. Republicans who were led by 2. Dick Cheney so that 3. Haliburton could get the contract to build for Emerson College, a capitalist institution.

Wrong place, wrong time? The driver of that car didn't have a chance. And it was a boom that collapsed. Which was attached to the top of a building. The anchor bolts broke.
Wonder if there will EVER be a follow up story?
Re: Scaffolding collapse kills three in downtown Boston

Anchor Bolts don't just "break." They were detonated by remote control.

were the dead people illegal immigrants?

It was a conspiracy. We all know that.
