Resist Military Recruitment 4/15 |
|

Modified: 11:31:21 PM |
This Saturday, April 15th, join us as we resist militarism and recruitment at the Tremont Street Military Recruitment Center. |
|
SATURDAY APRIL 15
meet at 2 pm
across from the Boston Common / Park Street stop
This Saturday we will unite across race, class, gender, and age to resist the recruitment of our friends, family, and classmates. We are sick of the military's lies and we are sick of the government's wars. We aim to resist the war by targeting it at one of its roots: recruitment.
We want recruiters out of our communities and out of our schools!
Bring pots, pans, drums, banners, signs, noise makers, and food.
This protest, like the others here in the past, was organized by the Radical Youth Alliance, a group of students and youth from throughout the Boston area. For more information contact us at RadicalYouthAlliance (at) yahoo.com |

Sorry, but I have to post this in response to the 90% sign..which by the way, if anyone can post a non-biased source to back that percenatage up...I would love to see it. If the % of female vets in this sign is true, that needs to be addressed and rectified.
On a side note...this made me think that a great counter-protest sign would be "100% of your rights are defended by male and female vets". If they can't recuit...the obvious end will be that you will have no rights, maybe that's what some people want? Who knows? |

Let the CEO's sons and daughters join FIRST. Then ALL the politicians sons and daughters. Then? Watch them all get messed up. Cause that's what will happen to your sons and daughters that go to war for Hallibuton, Exxon, Shell, Chrysler, and many more Corporate thieves.
This isn't about terrorism. This is about lies, money and greed.
Hell...they're breaking the bank. And the suckers, (us,) are ignoring everything! |

Been there,
Would you be for 2 years mandatory service after you graduate high school or are 18? Kind of like what they do in Israel? Wouldn't that be the fairest and most equal way to manage the service? That way nobody could gripe that anyone else isn't making the same sacrifice as those serving? You serve your time for your country, then you live your life...we'd all have VA benefits, giving you health care for free!!! |

If you are against military recruitment, don't enlist. It's that simple. They don't want you anyway. |

no, it isnt about making a personal decision not to inlist- it is about helping people who enlist know that their are alternatives to the military and also it is to fight against recruitment of anyone.
the idea that the military protects freedom is absurd. governments don't grant rights, they restrict them |
I agree with "radical youth". |

Also, there military recruiters lie to vulnerable people about what life in the military is really about. Educating potential recuites by protesting and resisting Military Recruitment is the right thing to do. |

That's a load of crap! "100% of your rights are defended by male and female vets" - Bull-sh!t
A good number of the online trolls trying to harass our freedom of speech of the Internet are vets. Military personnel are directly involved in waging online war against dissident websites.
Moreover, none of rights or freedoms were threatened by Iraq, yet there they are, murdering Iraqis.
That kind of thinking is just crap. |

90% of women in the military reported sexual harassment (Dept. of defense 1996)
1 out of every 3 women in the military reported being raped (Murdock & Nichols 1995)
1 out of 5 women in the military are prevented from getting a raise because of refusal to provide sexual favors (Murdoch & Nichols 1995)

"100% of your rights are defended by male and female vets"
That's news to me. First of all, to say that our rights "are defended by vets" implies that vets (i.e. people who served and aren't currently serving) are out there defending our rights, and a lot of them ARE in fact defending our rights by speaking out against war and poverty. Secondly, I strongly disagree with the idea that the military "protects" our rights. The military is funded by the government, and as such carries out its bidding. The government most certainly does NOT protect our rights...from the police out there protecting the wealth to the lovely FBI agents tapping my phone, I have yet to see a government agency protect my rights. Please note that accumulating wealth is no more of a right than robbing the impoverished all over the world. (If you were to examine the matter closely, you'd see that the two are really one and the same.) By standing outside of the recruitment center and working against it, we're helping others find alternatives to the lies that recruiters spew forth, and prevent kids from being suckered and exploited into killing for the rich. |

Spew you're lies to your familly. The military is protecting CORPORATIONS. Not us.
FEAR is what the government wants from us. They'll work FEAR for centuries. Can't you see that? I can. |

An Observation: |

The protest is *outside* the military recruiting station.
BUT
The activity is *inside* the military recruiting station.
Analysis: The protest is a bluff. A lot of noise and complaints NEAR but just FAR ENOUGH AWAY to be a challenge.

due to this demonstration the recruitment center locked its door, so nobody was going in for the duration of the protest. |

Was at the inprocessing center here in Boston not to long ago. Seems like the protesting isn't working. There was lines upon lines of males and females, from every walk of life, signing up. |

"There was lines upon lines of males and females, from every walk of life, signing up."
Anyone who has studied English would have used the plural of to be (i.e. There were lines...). Clearly, the author is a member of the U.S. Military.
Also "from every walk"? I'm sure you found lots and lots of the children of congressmen in that line, didn't you? Did you see the Bush twins there? How the sons and daughters of Americas corporate elite? Were they signing up too?
You military recuiters are really stupid. |

Recruitment numbers are doing well. For all those that do enlist there are thousands that do not get the chance to serve. Many due to unknown medical conditions, family issues and so on. There is no lack of interest to serve.
Congrats to Squad Leader for taking the plunge once again! |
