AMERICAN BLACKOUT -- the powerful new documentary on voter disenfranchisement -- screening May 23 and May 24 with Independent Film Festival of Boston |
...see what all the outrage is about.
AMERICAN BLACKOUT is:
"Engrossing, fast-paced, stylish... a powerful examination of voting
rights in America."
- Sura Wood, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
"...a provocative look at black disenfranchisement in the 2004 election."
- David Halbfinger, NY TIMES
"...a muckraking indictment of the systematic disenfranchisement of
African-American voters"
- Kenneth Turan, LA TIMES
To whom it may concern:
I'd like to make you aware of AMERICAN BLACKOUT-- a "powerful" and "provocative" feature-length documentary on voter disenfranchisement. The film was recently named Best Documentary at the Cinequest Film Festival, Audience Award Winner at the Cleveland International Film Festival, and
winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival '06. (Please see additional information below.)
With the plight of disenfranchised voters at the heart of the film's story, we feel that you can play a critical role in ensuring that their stories are heard.
Please join us April 23 and 24 for screenings of AMERICAN BLACKOUT at the Boston Independent Film Festival.
This film is uniquely poised to mobilize voters and promote integrity in our electoral process in '06 and election years to come. Most people have heard of the voting irregularities that marred the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Some even know of the resulting challenges to the electoral votes by African-American congressional representatives. However, because the mainstream media shies away from reporting cases of imperiled democracy the public is left to believe these stories are at worst insignificant rumors or at best one-off incidents that result from an overburdened election system.
American Blackout chronicles the recurring patterns of disenfranchisement witnessed from 2000 to 2004 while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who not only took an active role in investigating these election debacles but also found herself in the middle
of one after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9-11 terrorist attacks American Blackout gains unprecedented access to one of the most controversial and dangerous politicians in America and examines the contemporary tactics used to control our democratic process and silence political dissent.
American Blackout is a non-profit, grant-funded project with 501(c)3 status through fiscal sponsor, NYFA.
American Blackout is directed by Ian Inaba, the creator of the infamous 2004 pre-election video for Eminem's "Mosh" ( http://gnn.tv/videos/27/ ).

Monday 5:15 sommervile theatre "American Blackout" is
about the voting fiascos of preventing African
American voters from voting in both the 2000 and 2004
elections, and how Cynthia McKinney lost her
re-election campaign to another candidate, who was
probably bought by The Lobby; however, she did gain
her position back in 2004. **Cynthia McKinney has been
confirmed to be there.**
My biggest issue with the film was that there was no
mention whatsoever about The Jewish Lobby and its
impact on Cynthia’s congressional loss. Here’s an
article in the Palestine Monitor:
http://www.palestinemonitor.org/new_web/lobbying_pro_israel_candidate.ht.
One of the journalists interviewed in this
documentary is Zionist Greg Palast who has covered
these election fiascos extensively, but although he’s
considered a “progressive” journalist, of course, he
never discusses the issue with Israel or the Lobby. |
