QUINCY POLICE ASSAULT 4 ASIAN AMERICANS
04 May 2006
Early Sunday morning, April 30, Chinese Progressive Association organizer Karen Chen and three of her friends were brutally assaulted by the Quincy police, while coming home from a wedding party. All are young Chinese Americans.
While pulled over at a curb next to Super 88, they were approached by a state trooper. As they spoke with the trooper, a Quincy police car pulled up. Without warning, Officer Robert E. Curtis jumped out and pepper-sprayed Karen and three of her friends. Karen was tackled by three cops at once, receiving a black eye, swollen face, and bruises all over. Another friend was beaten and knocked unconscious. They were arrested and taken to jail. As a woman, Karen was subjected to possibly sexually harrassing behavior.

On May Day at court, three were charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and one person was charged with disorderly conduct.

The names of the police involved are:
Robert E. Curtis (#2488)
Brian Mahoney
Keith Wilbur
Patrick Folan
Sergeant O'Shea

State Trooper Chuck (Charlie) McGrail

Incidently, Robert E. Curtis ranked as the 17th
highest paid municipal employee in South Shore, making $141,947.39 in 2005.

CPA is planning to form a support committee to launch a campaign against the Quincy police to prevent brutality, to start meeting next week. We'd also like to look at working in coalition with other groups, including others organizing around police brutality and the criminal justice system...

Is your kid a whiny, insecure tattletale?
04 May 2006
From: http://wilsonhellie.typepad.com/for_the_record/2006/03/is_your_kid_a_w.h

Remember the whiny, insecure kid in nursery school, the one who always thought everyone was out to get him, and was always running to the teacher with complaints? Chances are he grew up to be a conservative.

At least, he did if he was one of 95 kids from the Berkeley area that social scientists have been tracking for the last 20 years. The confident, resilient, self-reliant kids mostly grew up to be liberals.

[...]

In the 1960s Jack Block and his wife and fellow professor Jeanne Block (now deceased) began tracking more than 100 nursery school kids as part of a general study of personality. The kids' personalities were rated at the time by teachers and assistants who had known them for months. There's no reason to think political bias skewed the ratings — the investigators were not looking at political orientation back then. Even if they had been, it's unlikely that 3- and 4-year-olds would have had much idea about their political leanings.

A few decades later, Block followed up with more surveys, looking again at personality, and this time at politics, too. The whiny kids tended to grow up conservative, and turned into rigid young adults who hewed closely to traditional gender roles and were uncomfortable with ambiguity. The confident kids turned out liberal and were still hanging loose, turning into bright, non-conforming adults with wide interests. The girls were still outgoing, but the young men tended to turn a little introspective.

Block admits in his paper that liberal Berkeley is not representative of the whole country. But within his sample, he says, the results hold. He reasons that insecure kids look for the reassurance provided by tradition and authority, and find it in conservative politics. The more confident kids are eager to explore alternatives to the way things are, and find liberal politics more congenial.

In a society that values self-confidence and out-goingness, it's a mostly flattering picture for liberals. It also runs contrary to the American stereotype of wimpy liberals and strong conservatives.

The evidence for police assault is who? The potential plaintiffs in a civil lawsuit? Any independent witnesses?

dude, you are weird... noboby needs to ask the Editors to run anything, it's an Open Newswire. hello? Indymedia, get it? Citizen Kane (whomever that is) posted this because he/she thought it was important. that's it.
Re: QUINCY POLICE ASSAULT 4 ASIAN AMERICANS

Flip, if you're so concerned about this incident why not call Quincy PD and post the official report of the incident (or their denial that there was one at all)

Here:
Asian Community Liaison 745-5850
Chiefs Office 745-5712
Civil Rights Officer 745-5725
Communications Sergeant 745-5836
Community Services Division 745-5751

Inventing reasons why it "must" be false based on you're assumptions as to who wrote the newswire piece is not a valid counter argument. So what if it's posted by the person alleging the assalt, her friend, or a personal rival of the accused. Merely pointing that out is not refutation, you need a countering view given by a more credible party before the trust worthiness of the source is even relevent.
Actually, any suit by the police would be thrown out.

The police cannot sue for being named. They are not private citizens.

Wrong brainwave. Police are not public figures. "Public Figure" is a term of art and applies to such people as Hillary Clinton, President Bush, etc. BIMC is getting sued baby!
Re: QUINCY POLICE ASSAULT 4 ASIAN AMERICANS

You have to prove assault before you print it in news especially without the word "allegedly." The exception is when people are arrested for assault and the police report is printed which says "so and so was arrested for assault." What Huibin Chew did here is libel people. BIMC is party to the libel.

That was weird.
Re: QUINCY POLICE ASSAULT 4 ASIAN AMERICANS

May I suggest the aggrieved Asiatics file a civil suit against the Quincy police? Let a jury of good citizens of Norfolk County determine this matter. One stipulation: if the plaintiffs lose, they will stand in front of Quincy City Hall at a press conference and sing "God Bless America" and apologize.

Flipside, do you keep calling her Huibin instead of Amee (the name she goes by) to emphasize her membership in an ethnic minority? You're a sad, sad dude.

Actually, she alternates.

Huibin and Candace both try to make it look like their friends were victims of racism just because they are Chinese, so stop bugging.

how come the chinese get all the good jobs in high tech? they should wait in line behind black people. now they want to get ahead of us in the police brutality lawsuit line?

I feel bad for the four ladies who was brutally assaulted by the cops without a reason. I hope those cops get prosecuted and paid for what they did.

5 Quincy Police officers and 1 State Trooper can not handle 4 un-armed woman? and had to use pepper spray? The police's conduct should to be investigated
