Berlusconi's Mousetrap: A Look at the G8 Protests in Genoa

Wednesday, August 21 (TONIGHT!), 7pm (Free!)

July 19-21 marked the first anniversary of the Genoa Protests against the G8. The protests were the biggest 'anti-globalization' protests ever and the 250,000+ people that gathered in Genoa on the final day of the protests partially in response to the killing of Carlo Guiliani dwarfed the mobilisations in Seattle against the WTO in 1999. The response of the authorities was however was systematic and brutal and had every appearance on being a calculated and premeditated attempt to use repressive measures to stifle this new form of networked and worldwide dissent. They too had learned the lessons of Prague and Quebec and their tactics were honed to a very sharp edge.

'Berlusconi's Mousetrap' is a feature length film (produced by members of Independent Media Center-Ireland) which concentrates on the three days of Genoa and the tactics of the protesters and the 'Forces of Order'. The film is two hours long and is made up of material from the IMC 'Global Mix' - material from the archive of IMC Italy - and footage shot by IMCers from Ireland. It covers all of the events of Genoa at length, including the death of Carlo Guiliani, the infamous raid on the Diaz School. and the various tactics and provocation employed by the Italian police.

This will be the first showing of this film outside of Ireland.

Does Anybody Know?

Does anybody know what happened to
the film that a few dozen Italian
directors were shooting as a
collaborative documentary during
the demonstration events in Genoa
last year?
