The u.s. is taking on the role of the idf (english)
20 Nov 2002
It used to be that the united states would take care of any opposition from the Palestinians, (the indigenous people of the territory now referred to as "israel",) to the theft of their land by sending israel more bombs, apache helicopters, f16 fighter planes, perhaps training the idf in the latest techniques of torture, et cetera.

Now it's clear that this government will use its "war against terrorism" to repress anti israel political activities outside of the borders of israel itself. How else can one explain the arrest of Amer Jubran, two days after leading a demonstration in support of Palestine? How else can one explain the detention and dental torture of Jaoudat Abouazza, who's so-called "crime" consisted of being Palestinian and having leaflets for a permitted anti israel protest which was to take place on June 9th? How else do we explain the fbi's entrance into Canada so as to continue to harass Jaoudat Abouazza? How else can one explain the arrest of the Palestinian gentleman from New Jersey for having attended the pro Palestine demonstration which took place on April 20th in Washington D.C.?

The united states has no intentions of giving up its plans to control the oil resources of the Arab world. That's why it's always turned a blind eye to the idf's use of torture and collective punishments as a means of crushing the *legitimate resistance* of the Palestinian people. But now, as their planned invasion of Iraq brings them closer to their dream of taking direct control of those oil resources in the Arab World they are going to make certain that no one gets in their way. They will repress any resistance to their plunderous, invasive plans where ever it takes place, and however it takes place.

By detaining people like Amer Jubran, Jaoudat Abouazza, and the hundreds of Arab and Moslem people of other nationalities, the u.s. government is saying that not even legal protest, (as they've defined it in the past) to what they're doing in Palestine,
and the rest of the Middle East will be tolerated.

We need to look no further for those who've trained the israeli forces in the "art" of maintaining a climate of repression. The u.s. government is showing us its expertise in all its gestapoish splendor as it goes about sweeping up Palestinians and other Arabs throughout this country.

The only thing and the best thing that we can do to counter this is not only to fight for Amer Jubran and the other detainees and hold this government accountable for what happens to these persons, but to continue to put forth the politics that they want to repress; in this case to continue to affirm the right of the Palestinians to return to *their land,* and to build a free, *self determining* *Palestinian state* in *all* of historic Palestine free of discrimination based on race, nationality or religion.

Free Palestine!
*Long live the intifadah!*
